According to Deadline, who first reported the news of Disney’s latest live-action film, the movie will simply be called Hunchback and will be produced by Mandeville Films and Frozen’s Josh Gad. Tony-winning M. Butterfly playwright David Henry Hwang, who also worked on Disney’s animated Tarzan, is set to write the script, WDW News Today reports.

Alan Menken, a Disney legend who actually composed the original score for the animated film, will be joined by Stephen Schwartz to compose the music for the live-action adaptation.

While no formal casting announcements have been made, it is rumored, according to Deadline, that Gad may play the role of Quasimodo.

The live-action remake will draw from the 1996 animated film and the Victor Hugo novel that was first published in 1831, PEOPLE reports.

David Hoberman, who runs Mandeville with Todd Lieberman, had been dreaming of making a live-action Hunchback for more than 30 years, going back to when he was Disney film president, Deadline reports.

The film is still in its early stages and is not yet on Disney’s release calendar.

This latest film is one of many films that are getting the live-action treatment from Disney, including Beauty and the Beast. Some of the upcoming live-action movies from Disney include Aladdin and The Lion King, which is set to hit theaters in May and July, respectively.
