From Crime to Comedy, These Are My Fave Podcasts You Should Listen to RN

This article has been syndicated from Daily Cup of JoJo, an InfluenceHer Collective Member. Read the full post here

I hate it when I’m in a group and everyone is all into the same TV show and I’m sitting there without a clue of what the hell they are talking about. Well, recently, that same feeling has been arising with podcasts. “Have you listened to the recent episode?” is the new “Have you watched that new show?” and I am 100% here for it.

Clearly, this is a bandwagon we all need to hop on because its all anyone is ever talking about. Podcasts are the perfect background for any workout, drive, cleaning spree, or any other activity for your day — whether you’re listening in on a riveting crime story or laughing along to your favorite celeb’s latest interview, podcasts are the best form of entertainment out there in my opinion. Here are a list and mini summaries of all of the popular podcasts millennials are listening to, because, well, it’s nice to have a clue what everyone is talking about.

Crime Related Podcasts

Seems like Crime related podcasts are the HOT topic currently so here are some of the fan favorite crime podcasts.

Female Criminals

Genre: Society and Culture
Orange is the new black has come to podcasts. This is the true crime podcast where women aren’t just the victims. Every week, the psychology, motivations, and atrocities of female felons are examined. New episodes come out every Wednesday.

To Live and Die in LA

Genre: Personal Journals
In Feb 2018, an aspiring actress vanished from her Hollywood apartment. Go inside a gripping multi-state investigation as it unfolds from the moment of the disappearance to each twist and turn in the case. Stay not only more informed than the news but listen as the official story is dismantled with in-the-moment first-hand reporting with the leading figures in the investigation.

American Scandal

Genre: History
Every scandal begins with a lie. But the truth will come out. And then comes the fallout and the outrage. Scandals have shaped America since its founding. From business and politics to sports and society, we look on aghast as corruption, deceit and ambition bring down heroes and celebrities, politicians and moguls. And when the dust finally settles, we’re left to wonder: how did this happen? In this series, you’re taken deep into the heart of America’s dark side to look at what drives someone to break the rules and what happens when they’re caught.

Comedy Podcasts

Tired of flipping through the radio or listening to the same Cardi B song on repeat? Switch your route to work up with one of these podcasts for a laugh instead!

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

Genre: Comedy
Men, this one is for sure geared towards you. Dax Shepard loves talking to people. He is fascinated by the messiness of being human and finds people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. He celebrates the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. With more than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training he will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. 16th-century science, here we come.

Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams are funny. They’re black. They’re BFFs. Join the 2 Dope Queens, along with their favorite comedians, for stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and Billy Joel. Plus a whole bunch of other S**t.

Call Her Daddy

Genre: Comedy

This series is a personal favorite of mine. There is some extremely raw material here and this is definitely for mature audiences only but vlogger Alexandra Cooper and best friend Sofia Franklyn dive into the explicit details of their life in NYC. In their 20s, the two exploit the hell out of their lives, making you feel a hell of a lot better about yours. Relationships, sex, the NY social scene, embarrassing moments, and more are all addressed. #DaddyGang

Death, Sex & Money is a podcast about the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation. Host Anna Sale talks to celebrities you’ve heard of — and to regular people you haven’t — about the Big Stuff: relationships, money, family, work and making it all count while we’re here.

Self Help

…because we all could use a little help from the experts, or at least the folks that appear to have it all together.

Rise with Rachel Hollis

Genre: Careers
We can all attest that Rachel Hollis is a goddess. She’s the “Girl, Wash Your Face” author, so what she says is basically law. Tangible and tactical tools for your life and business. RISE is a series of bold conversations with fellow business powerhouses and personal development leaders that provides the listener with real-life valuable takeaways.

Miscellaneous

Impress your friends and introduce them to a new podcast, like one of these!

Ologies

Genre: Science and Medicine

Volcanoes. Trees. Drunk butterflies. Mars missions. Slug sex. Death. Beauty standards. Anxiety busters. Beer science. Bee drama. Take away a pocket full of science knowledge and charming, bizarre stories about what fuels these professional -ologists’ obsessions. Humorist and science correspondent Alie Ward asks smart people stupid questions and the answers might change your life.

99% Invisible

Genre: Design

Design is everywhere in our lives, perhaps most importantly in the places where we’ve just stopped noticing. 99% Invisible is a weekly exploration of the process and power of design and architecture. You will definitely walk away learning something from this series.

Alright bachelor fans, this one is for YOU! Each week, Juliet Litman analyzes ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelor Winter Games’ in extreme detail and engages in conversation with guests from Bachelor Nation, fellow super-fans, and her Ringer colleagues. Its an after-party in a podcast.

So now that you’ve found your new favorite podcast, it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonder that is audio entertainment. Or if you’re feeling productive, try cleaning your house while listening to your new favorite podcast about entrepreneurship — talk about two birds one stone.
