A ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Revival Might Happen & I’m Not Sure How to Handle it RN

I don’t want to get everyone too excited-well, maybe I do. Gary Newman, the head of Fox Television Group said a revival of the classic TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer is “frequently discussed,” which means there could be a reunion and I’m trying not to freak out.

Though it sounds promising, there is a catch—which you probably expected with a discussion like this. Newman mentioned a revival won’t happen without Joss Whedon, the brain behind the show. “When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen,” Newman said at a conference according to Variety. Of course we have to have *everyone’s* approval.

I don’t see why Whedon wouldn’t want a revival. Not only would viewers win, but so would he. Newman even said so. “[If] people are aware of the show, you don’t have to build awareness,” he said regarding Buffy’s marketing benefits. “If the show’s beloved, you get a great deal of intent to view right from the get-go.”

Though we’re still waiting for Whedon to be on board, it seemed like it could happen when EW talked to him at the 20 year anniversary cast reunion in 2017. “Everything sort of finds its way back somewhere,” Whedon said. “I’ve been trying deliberately to move forward and do something a little bit different. But yeah, the great thing is everybody looks great, and the other great thing is the show is about growing up. If we did it with these guys, they’d be the age they basically are. They’d probably play a little younger because they can do that. But yeah, you’d see somebody going through their life at a different stage. It wouldn’t be like, ‘I can’t believe we’re still in high school! I wear ‘Depends!’”

Soooo, what’s the hold-up?! Just do it. I mean, you can work on other projects while having a revival, too, right? I see no negatives here.

I guess good things come to those who wait. Maybe if we’re patient, a reboot will be announced and the world can rejoice. I’m hoping it all works out, it would be so amazing.
