Alexander Wang’s Skincare Routine Involves Placenta

We all have our bizarre rituals and routines. Maybe yours involves getting that perfect curl in your hair or packing the perfect lunch, but for fashion designer Alexander Wang, “bizarre” doesn’t even begin to describe his skincare routine

During his Fashion Icons talk at the 92nd Street Y with Fern Mallis on Friday, Wang revealed the secret to his flawless complexion, and it’s stranger than we could have imagined.

“I’m a diva when it comes to skin care,” he admitted. “I use a lot of placenta and a lot of stuff that smells like it shouldn’t be put on your face. Things that really burn your face. Things that make your face really red, but then you wake up the next morning and you’re like, ‘Okay, I look amazing.’”

Yep, you read that right. Alexander Wang puts placenta on his face—as in the afterbirth of a real, live, human baby—and apparently he uses a lot of it.

Wang revealed a lot of other things during his talk, according to Vogue, including his cooking habits, the person he admires most and his hangover prevention tip. The designer loves to order takeout and watch TV (same), he admires Ralph Lauren above anyone else, and he prevents hangovers with his mind. Seriously.

“It’s all mental. It’s all mental,” Wang said. “[…] If you think, ‘I’m going to drink tonight, I’m going to make it tomorrow, I’m going to suck it in’ [you’ll be okay].”

Maybe the placenta has magical hangover-preventing powers?? Guess there’s only one way to find out…
