6 Things You Need to Know About Our New Miss America, Savvy Shields

As of last night, Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields is officially Miss America 2017! On Sunday, the 21-year-old college student put on her best performance and won over the judges—and America—to win the biggest title in the pageant world. Besides being absolutely stunning (and a great dancer), there are some other things we should all know about this incredible woman. Check it out:

1. She’s a student just like you

According to E Online, Shields is currently a student at the University of Arkansas majoring in art with a minor in business. She is also a very active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority! She posted an Instagram in front of her sorority house thanking all of the people who came by to see her and tbh, it is so sweet.

2. She is a proud member of the Beyhive

But really, who isn’t? According to NJ, Shields’ dream is to become a background dancer for Beyoncé. After her talent routine last night, it doesn’t seem so far off!

3. She reads all of her fan mail

Before the competition began, Sheilds posted a picture of all of her fan mail saying “handwritten letters and countless text messages later, to say that I have felt loved this week is the understatement of the century. Thank you so much to everyone for the calls, texts, face times and good vibes” according to Hollywood Life. She even reads the letters that kids write her!

4. She loves helping others

Along with many past Miss America winners, Shields is a huge advocate for charity work. According to E Online, Shields volunteers for many different foundations, including Children’s Miracle Networks Hospitals and Reading is Fundamental.

5. She is always a positive thinker

Before winning the crown, when asked about what it would mean to her to win Miss America, Shields said, “That would be the best day of my life in the future, but I want to always feel like the best day of my life is going to keep happening. I don’t want to think that I’ve hit it. I want to keep expecting and knowing that better things are going to happen in my life,” according to E Online

6. She lives a very healthy lifestyle

During the competition, Shields won over America with her platform of “Eat Better, Live Better.” She discusses it more on her Instagram by sharing healthy meal options with the hashtag #healthytiptuesdays.
