6 New Shows to Binge Watch Over Your Holiday Break

Thanksgiving has passed and winter break is underway, so students all over the country are psyched to get some well-deserved rest and relaxation at home with their families. Could you think of a better way to unwind other than binging some of the best new series coming out this season? Here are four of some of the most anticipated shows to look forward to.

1. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel S3 – Amazon

In this Amazon original series,  the same creator who brought you the iconic ABC show, Gilmore Girls, brings to life a story set in the 1950’s New York City. Housewife and mother, Miriam “Midge” Maisel, transforms her life when she realizes her undeniable talent for stand-up comedy. Upon its release, this series has been absolutely adored by critics receiving an array of awards and praise. This month, Amazon Prime will be gearing up for the release of the third season on Dec. 6, and I could not be more excited! Definitely a must-watch if you’re looking for a female lead who takes command of her life (and looks darn fashionable while doing so).

2. The Mandalorian – Disney+

This new series has had Star Wars fans feeling nostalgic since the release of its first episode on November 12. Not to mention the newfound love for “Baby Yoda” which has fans and Twitter communities alike beaming about the show’s promising beginning. And the best part? The Mandalorian comes as an extra perk to acquiring Disney+. In addition to this new series, Disney+ is bringing back all of  old movies from the vault and Disney channel originals alike, making this particular holiday season even more binge-worthy than normal.

3. The Witcher – Netflix

Another highly anticipated series premiere is The Witcher which comes to  Netflix on Dec. 20. Henry Cavill stars as a “witcher” who, along with a troubled princess and talented sorceress, travel around a magical land where they run into all kinds of mayhem and adventure. The series is based on eight books written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The book series has gained quite a bit of a cult following which resulted in video games under the franchise. Now, with a new television adaptation in the works, fans of the games and books are ecstatic to see the story come to life.

4. The Confession Killer – Netflix

For all you true crime lovers, The Confession Killer comes to  Netflix on Dec. 6. This docu-series is based on the story of Henry Lee Lucas, a convicted serial killer who confessed to over 600 unsolved murders. What makes his case particularly interesting is the speculation that he was lying, confessing to crimes he didn’t actually commit.

5. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Disney+

In addition to The Mandalorian, Disney+ released another series to promote their release. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is based on the Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical, from 2006. Despite a lot of skepticism by fans of the original movie, the series is proving to be a fresh and unique show with a sprinkle of nostalgia. In this series, students who attend East High School (the real high school where the movie was filmed) are putting on the play, High School Musical, and while they all learn to sing and act like the original characters, have a lot going on in their personal lives that they have to deal with. It’s “mockumentary” style of filming, paired with some fresh-faced actors, and a stan-worthy love triangle have fans obsessing over this show.

6. You S2 – Netflix

For those of you who hardcore binged the first season of You, great news: the show’s second season is coming back to Netflix. The story, based on a novel of the same name, is going to continue its story about Penn Badgely’s character Joe Goldberg and his obsession of aspiring writer, Guinevere Beck. This heart-racing thriller is sure to bring some more excitement to holiday break and have you jumping in your seat.

Excited for finals to be over and break to finally start? These shows are the perfect way to unwind and enjoy your time away from school. Having a variety of different genres with a dash of nostalgia is going to spend this break in the best possible way!
