5 Amanda Bynes Tweets to Live By (& 4 to Definitely Ignore)

Amanda Bynes has been on everyone’s minds during the past few months. Although she has gone from our favorite Nickelodeon child superstar to a lady in need of some intense TLC, some of her now-famous tweets actually contain some valuable wisdom. And then, of course, there’s some Amanda advice that you probably don’t want to pay attention to. We’ve laid out the best (and worst) Amanda advice out there.

Amanda-dvice You Should Follow

1. Don’t try to sabotage someone; let karma do the work

Amanda’s right! Purposefully causing trouble for someone else can often create a lot of tension and trouble for yourself. Why have your plotting backfire when you can just wait for the person you’re mad at to get themselves into trouble?

For example, if you hear that someone you know has been spreading bad rumors about you, don’t retaliate by spreading rumors about her—it’ll just make you look bad. Instead, just let it roll off your back, and once people realize how bad of a gossip she is, she’ll be the one who loses respect from others—not you.

2. Don’t invade others’ privacy

In other words, ignorance is bliss in some situations. While it’s great to stay well-informed about things that directly affect you, like schoolwork or your future career, there’s no reason to snoop on your friends and others. After all, who doesn’t keep secrets? There’s always a reason why some things stay private.

3. There’s someone for everyone

If you’re weeping into a bucket over your current romantic situation, remember Amanda’s words! Even though there’s some tension between Amanda and her crush, Drake (she’s been sending him alternately mean and flirtatious tweets), she knows what she’s talking about. Whether you hate your single status, you’re happy to be on your own, or you’re in a relationship, this message applies to you. There’s someone for you, somewhere, and finding each other is a lucky and great occurrence. You might meet him or her tomorrow, or you might have already met your soul mate… who knows!

4. Face your fears

Scared to apply for your dream internship? Worried that your grade in chemistry won’t turn out as well as you’d like it to? Don’t curl into a ball and attempt to avoid bad circumstances. Power through, face what you’re afraid of, and tackle it head-on; you’ll feel proud of yourself once you’ve succeeded! After all, as they say in sports: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”

5. Learn when to move on

It’s hard to get over something that makes you mad, but sometimes it’s better to just move on. So your last boyfriend was a jerk; that sucks. But what’s going to make you feel better in the long run—complaining about him on Facebook and convincing all your mutual friends to turn against him, or shrugging it off and putting him out of your mind for good? We bet the latter.

Thanks for all the great advice, Amanda!

It’s too bad that not all of her tweets are advice-column-appropriate. Check out these four bits of Amanda-dvice that you probably never, ever should follow.

“Wisdom” You Should Probably Ignore

1. You need plastic surgery to feel beautiful

Amanda, if you’re in love with a guy and he wants to marry you, he’s probably not going to make you sign a clause saying that you’re required to have an entirely new face before the wedding. Plastic surgery is a big deal! The only time you should consider getting a complete body remodel before heading to a wedding is if you’re running from the law (and there’s no reason why you should be in that situation, Amanda; your lawyers are very good!).

2. Never assume that you’ll meet someone again

Very not valuable anti-advice for any job-seeking individual! Treat everyone like you’ll meet them again, because there’s always a chance that you will. Think of all the connections you could lose if you don’t try to make a good impression! That’s a huge part of knowing how to network. And along the same lines, don’t think you can act unprofessionally around someone at your internship because they work in a different department—word does spread quickly.

3. Tweet everything about your life

Using social media, like Twitter, can be a great way to stay connected with others. It can also seem like a good method for getting your thoughts across to all of your friends at once. But some things are just not Twitter appropriate, especially since potential employers, family members, and others can easily see your Tweets as well if your account is public.

Tweeting about how much you dislike your boss or your job tasks is a great way to get fired, and tweeting gossip about your coworkers or “frenemies” is sure to start drama. The best way to avoid this? Make your account private, or don’t tweet things like that at all!

4. Your relationship will always be like a honeymoon

Every relationship reaches a point where both people want to spend less than 24/7 together. Although Amanda has wishful thinking, everyone needs some private time. Not wanting to spend all of your time together doesn’t mean that you’re not in love anymore! If this was the case, everyone would be needing a new significant other at the start of every month (if you catch our drift).

If you’re worried about not feeling as much of a spark in your relationship as you used to, there are plenty of ways to work on rekindling it. But don’t think you and your significant other shouldn’t be together anymore just because you need some alone time!

Whether Amanda Bynes’s tips are good or bad, she certainly does have some flair with how she gives them! Here at Her Campus, we’re hoping that she opens an advice-giving booth at the fair, fortune teller and crystal ball style, where we can hear more of her suggestions. In the time being, don’t forget to follow Amanda on Twitter at @amandabynes so you can take advantage of her advice firsthand!

Emily Willeman is a rising junior at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., located about an hour each way from Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. She is majoring in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in internet resource creation and management. Lengthy-titled minor, she knows, but it really just boils down to creating basic websites, professional development and technical writing. Previously, she's worked as an intern with a wedding planner in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, and as a writer for CollegeFashionista. Currently, she's working for various publications at her school -- including The Western Front and Klipsun magazine -- and as a tour guide for prospective students. She's also a web content and social media intern for a local nonprofit. Her favorite things in life are dogs, lipstick and cold weather (because of gigantic knit scarves and sweaters, warm drinks and that crisp autumn smell)! In her free time, she watches too much television and has a meth-like addiction to Twitter. Follow her at @EWilleman!
