How She Got There: Mabel Katz, International Speaker

HC: Who is one person who changed your professional life for the better?
MK:
When I realized I was going to change careers and start teaching, I mentioned to my spiritual teacher that I was going to take some classes in public speaking and he gave me a very important piece of advice: You don’t want to take any classes that will take away your spontaneity. You just have to be yourself in front of people.

HC: What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?
MK: What I learned from my teacher that changed my life was that I was 100% responsible. I was the one attracting everything in my life. When I realized that, I felt free for the first time in my life. I realized that if I created it, I could change it.

HC: What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?
MK:
Choosing a career like being an accountant because someone told me I was good at numbers. I learned that you have to always follow your heart and your passion. If you’re doing what you love to do, nothing can go wrong.

HC: What is the best part of your job?
MK: Interacting with people. Changing their lives, listening to their testimonies… Waking them up so they can remember who they really are.

HC: What do you look for when considering hiring someone?
MK: I always ask them what they love to do. It is very important that people do what they love. Usually what you love is your talent and natural gift and you will do it better and faster than anyone else.

HC: What advice would you give to a 20-something with similar aspirations?
MK: Believe and trust yourself. Dream big. Be yourself always. Do what feels good. Follow your heart. Do what you love and you will never have to worry about money.
