This Halal Nail Polish Collection Is Such a Big Deal

MuslimGirl.com, the largest online platform for Muslim women in the U.S. and Orly, a badass nail company, have teamed up to create #HalalPaint, which is a breathable nail polish made from 100 percent halal-certified ingredients. Being breathable means that the nail polish allows oxygen and moisture to pass through it and touch the nail, according to InStyle. This is crucial for the wudu ritual, which requires the person to wash their whole body with water, including the nails. Where regular nail polish would prevent the water from actually cleansing the nails, #HalalPaint allows practicing Muslim people to wear polish while still abiding by tradition.

“This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren’t represented in mainstream beauty,” Azmia Magane, the chief of staff at MuslimGirl.com said. “This is our way of bridging that gap.”

Each nail polish is named with Muslim girls in mind: the clever names include “Haram-bae,” “Wallah Bro Wipe Out,” “What the Fatima,” “Ig-Noor the Haters,” and “The Perfect Amani-cure” which is named after MuslimGirl.com’s founder, Amani Al-Khatahtbeh (one of the keynote speakers at this year’s Her Conference).

The set is available at halalpaint.com for $49.

This line is just the beginning of making beauty options available for all women and making it possible for people to practice beauty however they please.
