How to Get Away With Not Showering Over an Entire Festival Weekend

Festival season is here, and many of us are headed out to Indio right now to catch Ariana Grande and more faves at Coachella. I’m so here for celebrating the music, the people, and all the crazy memories. But what is it that I’m totally not down for? Three shower-less days of dirt, sweat, and heat.

Luckily, there are a few ways to combat the ickiness without having to stay at home. Here are all the hacks to stay fresh and clean during your long festival weekend!

Pack ~all~ the dry shampoo.

Of course, y’all knew this was coming. Dry shampoo works as a spray powder that absorbs all that extra oil and greasyness in your hair. And yes, it can even fix all the sweat on your roots that accumulated while you were dancing away in front of the mainstage. To make sure it’s most effective, spray it at the roots, wait a few minutes, and then brush it out.

I love Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! to quickly refresh my ‘do. If you notice that dry shampoo leaves your hair with a white film, my dark-haired friends recommend using Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo

Stay clean with wet wipes.

Honestly, wet wipes are such a slept on hygiene product. Though I typically associate them with changing diapers, wet wipes can be used as a convenient way to wipe away the sweat and grime from the festival. Keep two or three packets on hand over the weekend to wipe yourself down throughout the day. Focus on the back of your neck, your thighs, and your chest to really get rid of the majority of the sweat and dirt on your body.

And hey, make sure to also invest in biodegradable wipes to ensure that you’re doing your part in keeping our planet healthy!

Go heavy on the deodorant.

Do I really need to say more? I’m (admittedly) someone who sweats a lot, and if you’re like me, you know that most antiperspirant, even the “clinical” ones, don’t really do much to help control sweat. They do, however, control the odor that comes from sweat mixing with the dirt and bacteria under your arms, and on other parts of your body.

Pack a spray deodorant to spray not just under your arms, but on your legs and back as well. Don’t be afraid to look down the men’s deodorant aisle, either! Old Spice Wolfthorn Wild Collection Deodorant is one of my favorite scents with a sweet orange smell.

Put your hair in braids or a ponytail.

Wrapping your hair up in a ponytail with scrunchies and hairbands is an excellent way to keep yourself as clean as possible. It pulls your hair out of your face, keeps it from becoming as tangled, and helps shield it from the dirt and dust floating in the air.

Plus, festival updos are some of the most fun hairstyles to create! My mother always recommends braids as the best defense against dirty hair. Switch up your basic braid by doing double dutch braids, or try your hand at a braided topknot.

Control your skin with rosewater.

Rosewater is truly a luxury. Available as both a toner and a spray, I recommend getting a spray version to spritz all over yourself throughout the weekend. The refreshing mist of water in combination with the delightful scent of rose is the perfect pick-me-up when you need to feel a little cleaner.

Mario Badescu’s Rosewater Facial Spray is my holy grail when it comes to misting. I spray it every morning, night, and throughout the day to keep my skin refreshed and hydrated.

Festivals are an amazing way to connect with friends and create lasting memories, but the showerless days can really put a damper on the weekend. By implementing just a few tips, you can keep the dirt and grime away, and focus on dancing to the music.
