We all know that feeling: You just finished an awesome workout and you feel like you could conquer the world. You take a deep breath, chug a bottle of water and glance at yourself in the mirror. Shock and horror! What happened to your hair?

Have no fear, collegiettes! It is possible to make your hair look cute during and after your workout. Take a look at some tricks of the trade below!

Dye-ing to Tie it Up

Whether you choose to rock a tight, sleek pony, or a messy one, pair the classic look with a cute Dye Ties hairband. You can buy a set of five Dye Ties for yourself on beautydeals.net. Dye Tie hairbands don’t leave dents in your hair, so they’re great accessories to have when it comes to working out.

“I like Dye Ties because they’re much better for your hair than regular hairbands,” says Wendy Bryant Gow, a professional stylist in North Carolina. Courtney Kabbes, a junior at Indiana University says, “I always pull my hair back into a tight, sleek ponytail. It’s chic and functional.” Kabbes also says that she loves putting her hair up in Dye Ties because they’re cute and functional, and they come in so many different colors. They also come in headband form, so you can pair your ponytail with a Dye Tie hair tie and a Dye Tie hairband.

Sport a Cute Headband With An Updo

Lululemon headbands are a must for any collegiette who is looking to hit the gym and stay cute. They come in tons of different colors, and there are so many different options for styles and designs, you can’t go wrong. Headbands range from $14-$18 and you can buy them on the Lululemon website or at a Lululemon store near you.

When it comes to headbands, celebrity hairstylist Angelo David says, “Make sure you find the right fit. You don’t want it to be loose, but at the same time, you don’t want it to be so tight that it causes poor circulation and headaches.”

Plus if you feel like you’re in a workout rut, wearing cute new headbands could be great inspiration! Also, check out this article about how to get out of a workout rut, so you can sport your cute new headband at the gym.

Braids Are The Way To Go

“I think pigtails and side braids are easy and convenient styles to keep your hair in place at the gym, while maintaining a good look. Once you are done, you can just release the braids then run your fingers through, resulting in beachy soft waves,” says David.

From French, to fishtail, to traditional, braiding your hair is a great transitional hairstyle that works both during and post-workout. “If I don’t have time to shower after working out, I always put my hair in a braid because it confuses the eye into thinking that you aren’t as sweaty and dirty as you actually are,” says Nicole Warren, a sophomore at Indiana University. “Also, it’s a great transition post-workout if I don’t have time to shower because it takes away the frizzy look and leaves my hair wavy.”

To ensure that your waves don’t look frizzy when you undo your braid, squirt a dime-sized amount of John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum ($8.99 at drugstore.com into the palm of your hand, and run it up and down your braid before you hit the gym.

Put Your Hair in a Bun!

“One of the best transitional workout looks is the dancer high-twist bun,” says Andre Davis of NYC’s Julien Farel Salon. “Brush hair up, and put it in a high ponytail. Then twist the hair, and wrap it around the base of the ponytail to the very end, and pin it.” To make this look after a workout, Davis suggests unwrapping the hair and shaking it out. “This leaves great, loose waves,” according to Davis.

If you’re into sock buns, they can work at the gym, too! As long as you make sure that your hair is tightly rolled into the shape, you’ll be set. This look can sometimes be a little too pretentious for the gym, but a sock bun will definitely keep your hair out of your face while maintaining a cute look. Ballerina buns have the same effect, and they look super chic! A messy bun also works as a standby for a more relaxed look at the gym.

Kabbes suggests twisting your hair on top of your head and securing it with a ponytail. This technique gives your hair a little wave, and you’ll be good to go once you’re ready to leave the gym!

Dry Shampoo is the Way to Go

As collegiettes, it can be really hard to find time to go to the gym in the first place, so sometimes we can’t squeeze a shower into our schedules between the gym and class. If you’re struggling to find time to shower after your workout, break out the dry shampoo! “Dry shampoo is recommended because it is specifically crafted to be used on your hair to soak up the oil,” says David.

There are two words that can solve almost every sloppy hair dilemma: dry shampoo. It will save your post-workout hair troubles if you don’t have time to squeeze in a shower. Personally, I love TRESemme dry shampoo spray because it’s super easy to use and it doesn’t leave your hair wet or gray from the powder in the liquid formula. You can buy TRESemme dry shampoo at Walgreens for $3.99!

Mousse is the Word

Stephanie Weinstein, a sophomore at Emory, washes her hair before her workout and puts it in a bun with mousse. “It stays put and still looks super cute,” says Stephanie. “It’s my go-to hairstyle when I hit the gym to work out.”

“Post-workout, when you take out your bun, you can scrunch a little mousse into the hair for a look that works for lunch or dinner,” says Davis. He also suggests adding bedazzled hair clips to the look. L’Oreal makes a great mousse—Paris Glossy Curls Mousse— that you can buy for $8.00.
