My mom is my absolute best friend. She has been there for me my whole entire life and is honestly the person I’ve learned all of my beauty and fashion tips from. Growing up, I always wanted to play in my mom’s bathroom and closet. She had a whole skincare regimen and a closet full of shoes and bags. I thought it was fascinating. Over the years as I started to wash my face on my own, do my hair, pick out my outfits, and wear makeup, my mom has taught me everything I know (well, with the help of YouTube).

Today I wanted to share the four most important tips I’ve learned from my mom with you all. These four tips are more than just beauty tips to know, they’re life lessons that I think everyone should use in their daily life.

1. Care for your jewelry, handbags, and more.

No matter if they’re designer or from Forever 21, take care of your pieces. They will not only last longer but look prettier in the long run as well. I’m totally guilty of just throwing my handbags on a shelf in my closet but taking the time to place jewelry, handbags, etc. in their rightful places and cleaning them will lead to them lasting longer.

2. Throw out beauty products after they’ve expired or if you haven’t used them in three months.

Specifically talking to all of you beauty gurus out there. Hoarding makeup is so much fun—LOL. I used to do it and while I would love to still have a drawer full of 25 foundations, it’s just not practical. They will sit there and accumulate bacteria and expire. Go through your items, see if you’ve used it in the last three months and toss it if not. This also goes for skincare. I love face wash and moisturizers, but those also have a shelf life. See if you’ve used it recently and if not, toss.

3. Wash your face every night—don’t skip.

Being in college, it is so easy to fall asleep in your makeup after a busy day or night. Washing your face each night not only leads to better-looking skin, but you will feel so much better in the morning waking up. There’s nothing like a freshly washed faced and a little skincare regimen to end your night and to wake up feeling like a million bucks the next day.
