As a freshman last year, I heard talks for months of a famous event at Temple, otherwise known as “Spring Fling.” But when asking upperclassmen what this event was all about, I got the generic answer: an excuse to get drunk and have fun on campus. Really? That’s all it is? Sounds like something lackluster, but I was shortly proved wrong.

Spring Fling may be one of the most anticipated Temple-run events that students look forward to, but I constantly hear Temple freshmen pondering what exactly this day entails, aside from the fact that they can skip class and have fun all day.

Spring Fling is an annual outdoor festival, in which people promote their campus organizations and raise awareness of their organizations on campus. So, to all who may wonder, it’s not just an excuse to get drunk and lackadaisically wander around campus after all.

Spring Fling is a fun-filled day, in which students can relax and enjoy the end of the semester, prior to the start of finals. This year, many fun events went on during the festival. Balloon artists, live music, Segway rides, and bungee trampolines were just a few of the outlandishly fun activities held on Wednesday.

Spring Fling is an opportunity for Temple students to collaborate and come together to become educated about organizations on campus that may have not been well-known. You never know what fun organizations exist on campus, until Spring Fling rolls around.

So, as the day concluded, I returned to my apartment with a knowledge of an array of organizations that I never knew existed on campus. Although the day was chilly, I still managed to enjoy myself!
