Paris is the Most Beautiful City in the World

Monday, March 8, 2010

This past week I went on a study tour with one of my classes on my abroad program in Copenhagen for a week-long immersion in France. We went to the site of the Battle of Verdun that took place in WWI and was the largest single battle in human history, followed by a short trip to Reims to visit the Reims Cathedral and some Champagne Caves, followed by Versailles, and last but not least to the glorious city of Paris. I wish Louis XIV and Napoleon had decided to swing on over to the New World for a little and make any city - no, any building - in America half as beautiful as Versailles and Paris.

Sad to say, I actually ate a crepe every single day I was in Paris and our class was fed extraordinary three course meals everyday. I came home to discover that my favorite pair of jeans doesn't fit anymore. How can that actually happen so fast?? Ernest Hemingway was right, Paris really is a moveable feast. And Spring Break - aka bathing suit time - is in three weeks?? Any advice?

Here is a glimpse of my week in France:

Marie Antoinette's bedroom in Versailles, where nineteen royal children of France were born (not solely by Marie of course!) and where she first saw the rioting crowd on Oct 6 1789 coming to behead her. She escaped out of a door that is to the left of the bed.

Me just hanging out in the gardens of Versailles, no big deal.

One of the many meals that contributed to my fattening up at a place called Angelina's near the Louvre. The hot chocolate was insane.

My friends and I in front of the Eiffel Tower! (I am in the middle)

PS. Get jealous of my Spring Break itinerary: Budapest, Cairo, and Rome!

HC Love,
Joanna
