Aerie is awesome for so many reasons. Not only do they make some of the cutest and comfiest lingerie and lounge-wear around, but they employ models that are un-photoshopped AND representative of a greater range of body shapes and sizes. The brand has just announced the latest models who will join Iskra Lawrence, a body-positive model and activist who has been with Aerie since 2015, in the spring campaign. Introducing Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, actress and activist Yara Shahidi, and singer Rachel Platten to the #AerieReal fam!
Aerie considers these girls not just models, but Role Models, explaining that they were chosen “for their influential voices, unique stories, and self-made success.” These Role Models are responsible for more than just modeling. They’re planning on speaking about body positivity and empowerment across various Aerie stores, which should be a piece of cake for Raisman, who is currently tackling the task of being an advocate against former Olympic doctor Larry Nassar, while supporting her fellow female gymnasts. The former Olympian said in a press release that “we’ve all been through something that, in the end, will make you a stronger person.”
Not only will the girls be modeling Aerie’s line, but they’ll be designing part of it as well. Exclusive items created by these inspirational women will be available to shop in March, with 100 percent of the proceeds of these items will go towards a charity of their choice.
Aerie is changing the industry for the better — how can you not applaud that?
