We’re sad to see summer go, but if there’s one thing to get excited about this fall, it’s the new season of fashion! Trade in your summer shorts for a sleek pair of jeans. That’s why we’re giving you the rundown on the seasonal, in-style trends for denim whether you’re going out, wearing them to your internship, or just kicking back with friends on campus.
Falling into Florals
Floral patterns aren’t just for your spring wardrobe anymore - they’re back in bloom for fall! Dressing in head-to-toe posies may seem like pattern overload, but for designers like Oscar de la Renta and John Lewis, pattern-layering is the new color-blocking. They’re using darker colors and neutrals to tone down these otherwise bold and bright blossoms and make this traditional spring print more appropriate for the colder season. If you don’t believe us, take a cue from Victoria’s Secret angel Miranda Kerr who always puts her best fashion foot forward (on and off the runway).

Ribbon Zip Detail Blazer, $30, Bank
Lavender Sandies Top, $22, ModCloth
Liberty Black Suedette Platform Shoe Boots, $60, BooHoo
Burnished Owl Pendant Necklace, $9.50, Wet Seal
Style Tip: Blue and black are two big colors to pair together this fall, so why not incorporate them into an outfit when picking out your floral denim this season? This keeps the floral pattern from being too bright and spring-like, and more somber and autumn-like. Pair them with a cool zippered blazer and suede booties to keep the outfit framed and use your top for color.
Lovin’ Leather
Leather is always a fall favorite among designers (and we love our moto jackets), so it’s no surprise that this material is making its way into denim as well. The key to looking edgy and fashion-forward with this trend (and not like Catwoman), is keeping it in moderation. If you’re not ready for a full-on leather look for your bottom half, opt for leather accents. And don't think you need to just opt for leather in black: reds and rich browns make great fall leather colors too.
