Meghan Markle Wears Heels That Are Too Big for Her & It’s Pretty Relatable

After watching Meghan Markle shine at many royal events this past month, Instagram users can’t stop raving about her impeccable sense of style. With every single hair in place (not that that’s a problem though), Meghan has become the standard for sleek and elegant fashion choices. However, after seeing her many appearances, commenters are starting to wonder about one teeny flaw in every outfit Meghan wears: her shoes always seem too big for her.

A lot of photos of Meghan show a small gap between her heel and the end of her shoes. Netizens were befuddled at the seemingly simple fashion flaw. Luckily, fashion experts like Harriet Davey are here to clear the air.

Davey tells The Sun, “Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to—to avoid blisters.” Sizing up seems pretty ingenious actually, given how many events Meghan has to attend on a daily basis and the length of those events as well. When you have to do a lot of walking in a pair of heels for many hours, your feet will inevitably swell a bit, so that extra space allows for some extra comfort. So the big heel hack seems plausible at first, but what happens if her shoes start to slip off since they’re too big? (Clearly, Meghan is even more skillful than we initially thought, seeing as she hasn’t had a misstep yet, literally.)

Refinery29 had more to share from Davey. “A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes,” Davey adds on. It’s wonderful to see the sensibility behind Meghan’s fashion sense. After all, while it’s important to look good, it’s also important to keep those discomforts in mind when dressing up.

“The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions—like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumored to suffer with,” Davey says. By learning the tricks of the Royals’ fashion trade, you too can start rethinking your comfort in your everyday style as well! The Royals know best.
