Katy Perry Compared Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress to Kate Middleton’s & Twitter Thinks It’s Petty AF

The Royal Wedding is all anyone seems to be talking about as of the past week or so, and of course, all of us had been long awaiting the reveal of Meghan’s wedding dress. Mostly everyone had positive reactions to the dress, and I even saw some of my friends tweeting about how elegant and effortless her first gown looked, but as always, there are going to be some haters. Yes, even Meghan Markle ~who is literally marrying into the a royal family and living out an actual fairytale~ has haters.

Unsurprisingly, some big-name celebrities took it as their duty to share their negative opinions of Meghan’s Givenchy gown, namely Katy Perry, who criticized Meghan’s dress during Sunday’s airing of American Idol. According to Teen Vogue, she told a reporter: “I’m never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you.” She continued with: “Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!” I just eye-rolled so hard I burned 10 calories.

Look, it’s one thing to have an unpopular opinion. But it’s another thing to shade a wedding dress by comparing it to another said family member’s (Kate Middleton’s) as if it was some sort of competition. Both women are beautiful and had gorgeous gowns for their weddings. Why should someone “win” a nonexistent wedding dress competition?

Of course, Twitter got heated about Katy’s comment. Most were pretty upset that Katy would say such a thing as it’s basically putting two sisters-in-laws against each other, but other people defended the singer, saying that she stated her opinion because she was asked to.

No matter what, Meghan looked flawless AND she gets to marry a prince – so she tops all of us. Now can we move on to gushing about the neckline on her second wedding dress though?

I moved all the way from Southern California to pursue my dreams of writing style and entertainment pieces and becoming more and more myself. Some may consider me a film junkie, astrology queen, and an extreme vegan. But to me, I'm just a writer babe in the big city.
