How to Rock 6 Celebrity-Inspired Halloween Costumes

On the creepiest night of the year, some of our favorite celebrities get seriously festive. From chic and sleek to silly and scary, we’ve compiled some of the coolest celebrity costumes from past Halloween events and tips for how you can rock these creative looks!

1.  Kim Kardashian: Poison Ivy

While Kim may be able to make anything look sexy, we especially loved her creative take on the Batman villain Poison Ivy.  While you can find a costume similar to Kim’s 2011 look at Wholesale Halloween ($56), our crafty collegiettes can recreate this leafy dress with just $25 and a glue gun by arranging artificial leaves onto a plain green dress.

There are also a couple of options when it comes to rocking red hair.  You can keep it easy and mess-free by getting a red wig, or you can style your real hair and add a wash out dye.

20” Ivy Swag, Afloral.com, $3.99

Sheer Jersey Chemise, American Apparel, $24

Wig, Party City, $16.99

Manic Panic Hard Red Styling Gel, Party City, $5.99

2. Michelle Trachtenberg: Tim Burton’s Blue Girl

Tim Burton fans who aren’t afraid to go all out should definitely take a hint from Michelle Trachtenberg’s Blue Girl costume from 2011.  The obvious essentials for this bold look are blue body paint, black eyeliner for drawing on scars and orange hair, achievable with either a wig or wash out dye.  When it comes to the outfit, you can get away with wearing a simple black and white striped corset ($17.97) with a black petticoat, or you can find an under-bust corset with a built in petticoat and layer a bra or bandeau underneath to get both the vertical and horizontal striped look. Top off the look with black and white striped tights.

Striped Tights, HalloweenCostumes.com, $4.99

Orange Wig, Party City, $16.99

Orange Temporary Hair Color Spray, Party City, $2.99

3.  Audrina Patridge: Peacock

You’re sure to turn heads this Halloween with this foxy feathered look inspired by Audrina Patridge’s 2008 costume. This look can be easily replicated by gluing peacock feathers to a corset and adding a black tutu to complete the look.  To recreate her dramatic makeup, you can use colored eyeliner, such as Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencils ($19) in the shades Abyss and Junkie (which match the deep blue and teal peacock feather tones), to draw fake lashes around your eyes like Audrina’s.

Peacock feathers, Discount School Supply, $9.99

Corset, Corset-Story, $28

Tutu, Corset-Story, $8

24/7 eyeliner pencils, Urban Decay, $19

4.  Lucy Hale: Unicorn

If you’re looking to embrace your girly side this Halloween, Lucy Hale’s 2012 unicorn look may be your perfect inspiration!  The important accessories for this look are rainbow unicorn ears over pink hair (achievable with either a wig or wash out dye), white gloves and furry rainbow boot covers.  The Pretty Little Liars star’s colorful outfit can be easily replicated with a bright, off the shoulder crop top and petticoat. To complete this cute look, add some bright pink lipstick such as CoverGirl Lip Perfection ($7.49) in the color Siren (or Enchantress, if you want to add an extra sparkle!).

5. Anne Hathaway: Cleopatra

Anne Hathaway’s cute Cleopatra costume from 2004 is both chic and suitable for chilly Halloween weather.  To channel your inner Nile Queen, all you need is a beaded headdress, a white one-shoulder belted maxi dress and gold accessories. While you can get away with straightening your real hair to top off this sleek look, you can also go the extra mile by wearing a black wig like Anne did.  To complete this glamorous look, add some shimmering gold eye shadow to match your accessories.

Dress, Forplay, $18.74

Black wig, Party City, $19.99

Beaded headdress, Costume Craze, $16.14

Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eye Shadow, Maybelline, $9.99

6. Heidi Klum: Vampire

We certainly couldn’t leave out the celebrity queen of Halloween, Heidi Klum. This model and crazy costume enthusiast throws annual Halloween bashes and redefines wild every year with her audacious ensembles. Though most of her costumes require an entire team to design and assemble, her 2005 vampire getup strikes a workable balance between wacky and wearable.

To inexpensively recreate this look, pair a similar red and black corset dress with a black lace cape. Add a curly black wig and, of course, vampire fangs. To achieve Heidi’s frightening makeup effect, you can apply baby power as a base for a deathly pale glow, surround your eyes with red cream makeup ($1.99) and top it off with intense black liquid eyeliner ($7.25).

Plastic Vampire Fangs, Party City, $0.99

Curly Wig, Party City, $14.99

Black Lace Cape, Party City, $24.99

Corset Dress, Ali Express, $18.72

Red Cream Makeup, Party City, $1.99

While we think these particular celebrities killed it with their costumes, there are many more sources of Halloween inspiration worth looking into, such as costumes worn by TV characters and Halloween costumes from movies!
