College Fashion Week 2012: What the Attendees Had to Say!

Her Campus teamed up with U by Kotex for the first-ever College Fashion Week™ tour across the nation, bringing the top looks for class, the gym, formals and weekends, to help collegiettes upgrade their lives. With amazing brands and incredible student performances, Her Campus celebrated the college version of New York Fashion Week in Boston, Ann Arbor, Raleigh and Santa Barbara.

College Fashion Week™ kicked off in Boston on Sept. 29 at The Estate, featuring local Boston brands and student designers. “I loved the energy at the event; the venue was so cool and with all the free goodies inside, it made for a great time!” said Brigid, a Northeastern collegiette.

“I felt like a real VIP with the goodies and free photo,” said Alyssa of Emerson College, who particularly enjoyed the student performances (like BU’s all male a cappella group) and models. “I liked how the show was modeled by students, not real models.”

For Boston’s show, Her Campus worked with student models from Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern University, the schools’ respective Her Campus chapters, and Beauty Changes Lives, a non-profit raising awareness of transformation from beauty industry careers.

By the end of the night, the looks and Back-to-School Survival Kit goody bags were packed and en route to Ann Arbor, the next stop on the tour. Student models from the University of Michigan walked the runway on Oct. 6 at Necto Nightclub for the second show of College Fashion Week.

“I thought the fashion show was great,” shared Olivia of University of Michigan. “It definitely gave me some ideas for my next shopping trip!”

Lizzie, another collegiette from University of Michigan, agreed with Olivia and expressed how much she loved the clothes and enjoyed that “women of all interests, colors and sizes were invited to model and party.”

“I think it was a very unique event that I have never seen before done on campus. I think it was a great example of how strong the Her Campus brand is,” said Lizzie.

With such a great response, Her Campus headed to Raleigh to bring the fashion show tailored to the college scene to Mirage Nightclub on Oct. 13. In Raleigh, models and student groups from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and North Carolina State University graced the stage.

“Amazing,” said Melissa, a UNC-Chapel Hill collegiette, to describe her College Fashion Week experience. “I loved the performances and the show!”

Hannah from North Carolina State University said, “College Fashion Week presented an opportunity for girls my age to get out on the town and feel pampered, just like we would if we were going to a real fashion show… without all the dramatic negativity seen in industry shows!”

The fun, college-centered show traveled to the west coast for the final show in Santa Barbara. Californian collegiettes attended the show on Oct. 20 at Carrillo Recreation Center to see the clothes and accessories of Phillip Manus, LeSportsac and Bow & Drape among others, and hair and makeup of Beauty Changes Lives and Not Your Mother’s Brand.

“I loved it from the beginning to the end,” said Gisella from University of California, Santa Barbara. “I’m really glad I was there and I feel so lucky to have been a part of that.”

Danielle, also from UCSB, said, “I thought the entire layout of the show, with different ways to ‘upgrade’ your life in different aspects, along with fun local performances throughout, was very awesome and creative. Overall, the experience was one I will always remember!”

After traveling across the nation, the first College Fashion Week™ has, come to an end, and Her Campus and U by Kotex have left a fashionable mark on colleges across the country.
