It’s absolutely crazy to think that there’s already drama with next fall’s Fashion Week lineup, right? Wrong. Although it’s a year away, Vogue editors are already talking about not attending Milan’s Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear shows.
Before you freak out, here are the facts:
- New York Fashion week will start on September 13th, a week later than usual, because of a later Labor Day.
- The Italian Chamber of Fashion is not happy about this schedule because they believe that Milan Fashion Week is entitled to an earlier week.
- The chamber plans to have Milan Fashion Week start during New York Fashion Week and end during London Fashion Week. An overlap? Major fashion faux pas!
- International editors are not amused by this change and refuse to ditch New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week shows.
- Jonathan Newhouse, the Conde Nast International Chairman, wrote a less-than-thrilled letter to Mario Boselli, the head of the Italian Chamber of Fashion. According to Newhouse, his international editors from American, French, and even Italian magazines will not attend Milan Fashion Week if the dates are not changed.
- Rumor has it that Boselli’s response was quite simple: “Let the best one win.”
- Diane Von Furstenberg, the president of CFDA- the Council of Fashion Designers of America- and a Fashion Week favorite, believes that this misunderstanding will be fixed soon.
- In a recent statement to WWD, Boselli said that the Italian Chamber of Fashion regrets that this drama had to occur; however, it’s not their fault.
Who knew that fashion could get this dramatic? In my mind, each fashion season is like a marathon: the season starts in New York, travels across the pond to London, continues in Milan, and finishes off in Paris. I couldn’t imagine any other order. Won’t this change make following collections on style.com more difficult and confusing? A fashion season just doesn’t feel right without Anna Wintour’s iconic bob and sunglasses at every top show. Hopefully, this disagreement can be settled so we can all focus on the collections! Whose side are you on? How do you think this will impact runway reports and Vogue’s coveted say in what’s hot and what’s not? Sound off below!
