Dakota Fanning: A Fashionable Collegiette

Dakota Fanning is one of the biggest fashionistas of our generation: she’s been featured in several Marc Jacobs ads and rocks incredible looks on the red carpet. But with starting classes at NYU, will Fanning befriend the collegiette ™ sweat suit? Absolutely not! She’s not taking these four years to slack off as a fashionista. “If you ever catch me in sweatpants in class, that’s not good. I’ve tried not to dress like that,” Fanning said in a recent interview. Can’t you picture her wearing some ah-maz-ing finds from incredible New York boutiques?

I’m such a supporter of “the anti sweatpants” movement; however, I do have to ask myself if Fanning even has a choice to dress casual to school. She’s viewed as such a style icon so wouldn’t it be a career taboo to roll out of bed and go to class, especially at such a high profiled university?

But other celebrities have been spotted looking casual on campus. Emma Watson was photographed sporting a simple white tee and jean shorts at Brown. And did she get criticized for her casual look? Nope! So maybe it’s just Fanning being her stylish self. And by the way she dresses on a day-to-day basis, you can bet that she’ll be one of the chicest girls on campus.

Moving to the east coast is a major change, both socially and style-wise. So what will Fanning need when she lives in the Big Apple?

  • Hunters: “I knew to bring a lot of coats, and my Hunter rain boots,” says Fanning. She’s absolutely right:  Hunters are the perfect way to look stylish during the most rainy days.
  • Scarves: Not only do they keep you warm, but they can also be super chic.
  • Tights: They may not be big in LA; however, tights keep your warm and looking sophisticated. You can also get patterned tights to spice up any look!
  • A Blazer: You’ll look fashionable and professional without looking like you belong on Wall Street.
  • Riding Boots: A comfortable alternative to fashion-forward heels.

If Fanning invests in these pieces, she’ll be sure to make a splash at school!
