The Best Fashion Buys We Made in 2014

We don’t know about you, but we’re looking back on this year with fondness. Not just for the experiences we had and the memories we made but—of course—for the things we bought! But we’re not talking about tech goodies or over-the-top luxuries; we’re talking all things fashion from warm, patterned coats to booties that go with everything. First we shared what was on our style bloggers’ holiday wish lists, now we’ve consulted the HC Team about which fashion buys this year were their faves. Bonus: some are still available and even on sale! Check out their oh-so-chic picks below.

1. Caroline Pirozzolo, Ithaca College Freshman – Zara Block Heel Elastic Leather Bootie ($99.90)

“I was looking for a pair of pointed toe ankle boots all fall and I finally found these. They look just like the classic Acne Studios style that every blogger seems to have and they go with everything!”

2. Sophie Dodd, Middlebury College Senior – Nasty Gal Stockholm Plaid Wrap Coat ($69)

“I am in love with this Nasty Gal Stockholm Plaid Wrap Coat I bought a few months ago. It’s insanely warm and can be worn so many different ways. It’s a great coat for nights out because it’s dressy and chic while still being cozy. Plus, it’s now 50 percent off!”

3. Rebecca Shinners, Boston University ’14 Graduate – Jeffrey Campbell Cutout Booties ($155)

“I bought them over the summer with my mom (who told me they were weird-looking) at Bloomingdale’s and haven’t stopped wearing them since. They ended up being so versatile—even my mom has become a fan. I wore them in summer to give girly dresses an edge and with tights for winter. I wear a lot of black and white, so these have been a great addition to my wardrobe. I especially love wearing them with one other patterned piece, like a top, for an unexpected twist. An updated version in black is now available.”

4. Karina Reddy, Boston University ’14 Graduate – Banana Republic Printed Fit-and-Flare Dress ($139.99)

“I graduated in May from Boston University and my favorite thing I bought this year was the dress I bought for my graduation. I loved it because it fit perfectly, is beautiful in person with a slightly shiny floral pattern, has a fun cutout back and looked perfect with my favorite pair of Kate Spade wedges. I wore it to a few other events over the summer like weddings and family parties and I can’t wait to wear it again next spring/summer!”

5. Iris Goldsztajn, UCLA Junior – Brandy Melville Leia Sweater ($48)

“I bought this sweater from Brandy and I’m obsessed with it! It’s so simple that it looks adorable over everything, but it’s also good quality (70 percent wool) and value. I’m currently in freezing Ireland and it’s absolutely perfect.”

6. Sarah Kim, Penn State University Sophomore – Steve Madden Cavvo Leather Fringe Ankle Boots ($77.98)

“This spring I was looking for a really cute pair of fringe booties, and I finally found them at Anthropologie. I really wanted a pair because I’ve been really loving the fringe trend, and I think it’s an interesting twist on the moccasin boots that everyone wears. These Steve Maddens are similar to the pair I bought.”
