The Biggest Style Moments of 2011

As 2011 comes to a close, we find ourselves ruminating on what’s taken place in the past year-the noteworthy, the shocking, and, of course, the stylish.

The biggest style moments this year were marked by historical events (the royal wedding) and the consistently bold pieces worn by Lady Gaga. HC has compiled some of the most memorable style highlights from 2011.

The Dress
Since the royal engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton was announced to the world, the sole topic of conversation revolved around the wedding dress. The design was kept secret until the moment Kate stepped out of the Rolls Royce Phantom VI at Westminster Abbey. When the world finally caught a glimpse of the dress by designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, brides-to-be all over the world were clamoring for similar modest yet elegant designs for their own wedding dresses.

Ombre
This low maintenance look, whether it be for hair, nails, or clothes, was one of the most prevalent trends this year. Some say the two-toned look is on its way out, but some of our favorite fashionistas would have to disagree. Check out which celebrities were rocking their roots this year.

Mixing Prints
This has always been a tricky look to pull off, but 2011 has given us all a reason to go ahead and experiment a little.

The Baby Bump
Beyonce’s orange Lanvin dress at the MTV Video Music Awards made maternity look so chic.

Gaga’s Egg
Lady Gaga has long been known for outlandish fashion choices, but her entrance at the 2011 Grammy’s had us forgetting she ever wore a dress made out of meats.
