The 7 Trends You Need to Rock this Fall

With a new school year on the horizon, fall is definitely the most exciting season to shop for. After all, there’s no better time to try out a new look! To help you get started, we’ve talked to stylists, monitored the runways and put together a list of the 7 biggest fashion trends for this fall season. Get ready to walk to class in style!

1. White blouses

If you’re going to add anything to your fall wardrobe, make it a classic white blouse, like this one from Romwe ($16.99). This dynamic piece is perfect for a business casual job interview, a date night downtown or just another day in class. This season, give the standard button-up a total upgrade—opt for a top with dynamic details, like a floaty, loose peplum.

2. Menswear-inspired

The powersuit is cooler than ever! Whether you have a job interview to head to or just want to look smart for class, you’ll definitely need a button-down shirt, pencil skirt, pantsuit or blazer (like this one from Forever 21), as part of your wardrobe this fall. “This menswear-inspired look is all over the runways,” reveals Colin Megaro, Founder and Stylist of Megaro LLC in New York City and Los Angeles. So step up your fashion game with these chic staples!

3. Floor-duster coats

If you’re looking to make a statement as the weather gets colder, look no further than a floor-duster coat (ASOS). “It’s important to remember that the coats should not actually touch the ground,” says Megaro; so pairing them with a pair of heeled boots is the best way to go. Although many coats of this style are on the pricier side, they’re a great investment for the winter season!

4. Neo-Victorian

We’re throwing it back WAY farther than just a few decades this fall with these 19th century-inspired pieces. “Think high-collared ruffled blouses, floor-sweeping beaded dresses, and beautiful lace accents,” Megaro says. We love this dusty pink sweater (H&M) for a subtle neo-Victorian touch.

5. Statement bling

Looking to spice up an everyday outfit this fall? You’re in luck, because stone accents are back! Subtle statement rings like these from Forever 21 and even more sparkly earrings like this Kate Spade pair are the perfect way to dress up any look.

6. Full-on monochrome

Who says wearing all of the same color has to be boring? Monochrome outfits in shades of black and gray are one of the easiest ways to make a statement this fall. Start your monochromatic collection with a go-to pair of black jeans (Gap).

7. Chunky knitwear

As the fall temperatures set in, cozy up with chunky knitwear pieces like sweaters and scarves. This cardigan from Urban Outfitters is a great option—it’s incredibly layerable, which is always in for fall!

Whether you’re dressing up for a night out or just heading to class, there are countless new ways to be fashion forward this fall. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and go for one of these statement pieces. After all, new (school) year, new you!
