HC Abroad: A Scottish Week

Monday, April 25, 2011

The flight to Scotland was blissfully short and we checked into our hotel around 9am only to crash on the bed until noon had come and gone.

Once we finally roused ourselves we explored Edinburgh and took in all of the architecture. The buildings are among the most amazing I’ve ever seen, they definitely rival Bath!  We called it an early night so that we’d be ready for our tour in the morning.

Our tour left at 8am and took us all over Scotland. We saw where Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed, where Hagrid’s House was filmed for the Harry Potter films and where a few scenes from Lord of the Rings were shot. Talk about a star-studded day! The highlight of the trip was seeing Loch Ness, where the infamous monster has been sighted. Sadly, I didn’t catch a glimpse of Nessie myself  but the scenery more than made up for it.

I decided to have a down day after such a long tour on the 16th, so while my mom went on a bus tour of the city I headed over to the Elephant House. This was by far my favorite part of the trip, since I got to sit and write in the café where J.K. Rowling penned part of the Harry Potter books! I tried to soak up as much of the authorial magic as I could.

It was the perfect end to a nearly three-week trip!

Exeter

Hi!
I'm French and I'm going to spend one year in Exeter from next september.
I am looking for an accommodation. I would like to be from a walking distance both from the Streatham campus and from the city centre.
By the way, are places to go out in the city centre?
Thanks for sharing your student life with us, I can't wait to be in Exeter!
