Educational Procrastination

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

It's finals week part one at JMU. Which means it's pre finals week exams and projects... possibly worse than finals week actually. So what am I doing? I'm procrastinating productively.

While in the library I decided to browse (not work), and stumbled upon stack section N: the fashion section. I am in no way taking any classes that relate to fashion (unfortunate, but I cantell you about protein isolation instead). I ended up checking out "Tiffany Fauna", as in blue- box-heart-stopping-gorgeous Tiffany's. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, Tiffany's designers had a soft spot, as do I, for animal inspired jewelry.

Let me provide some procrastination for you:

  • Jean Schlumberger was a French artist who created amazing pieces for T's in the 1900's.
  • Tiffany's did much more than animal jewelry, even creating a 2 foot silver swan centerpiece!
  • Some of their bird pieces are based on J. James Audubon's 1825 book "The Birds of America".

The book has beautiful photographs of the collection, while its sister book "Tiffany Flora" promises to be just as procrastination-worthy. Do a bit of research on your own, and find your favorite!
