This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at York U chapter.

Thinking about going away during this dreadful strike? Or even just looking for some cool tips and tricks to use over this summer? Well then, this is the post for you! Traveling can be very stressful, right from finding the right flights to checking out of your hotel after your vacation. Here are five useful travel hacks you can use to make sure that your vacation stays a vacation and doesn’t end up breaking your bank and leaving you even more stressed than before.

Booking Flights

Ever feel that ticket prices are getting cheaper by the hour? It’s because they are! When booking flights and hotels online, make sure to enable private browsing. Travel sites often track your visits and will raise the price simply because you’ve visited before! Private browsing allows you to shop though hundreds of travel sites without the fear of prices increasing!

Dryer Sheets

Place a dryer sheet in your suitcase to keep your clothes smelling fresh and to reduce static. This will not only leave your clothes, but also you, feeling nice and fresh! I mean, who doesn’t love the smell of clean laundry?

Soap Towel

I don’t know about you guys, but don’t you have a favourite soap? One that smells just right and leaves you feeling smoother than any other? Often when traveling, the hotels we’re staying at come with these unknown shampoo, conditioner and soap brands. Sure they smell nice, but nothing compares to your favourite soap at home! So next time on the road, check out this cool soap towel DIY to help you carry your preferred bar anywhere you go!

Tic Tac Hair Pins

Ok, this one doesn’t have to be used only while traveling because if you’re anything like me, you’re constantly losing your hair pins in your own home! So here’s a cool technique that I now live by: collect all your hair pins (or what’s left of them) and put them in a Tic Tac container. This hack lets you have all your pins in one spot and it’s portable! You can never lose your pins again… unless you lose the Tic Tac container.

Google Maps

When traveling to new places, we’re bound to get lost, but how about when we travel to another country and we can’t ask for direction? Simple! Use Google Maps offline by typing “OK Maps” and the visible area will save for future access. Do this in your hotel room before leaving and then go explore! With Google Maps at your fingertips, you’ll never have to worry about getting lost again!

These travel hacks are easy, cheap and definitely lifesavers! So next time you’re going on vacation, be sure to try at least one of these and help your vacation stay a vacation!
