Tasty Videos Should Not Exist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

Like most people these days when I’m bored I turn to social media. Lately I have been really into watching videos on Facebook since my roommate and I always tag each other in them. They literally have the craziest and funniest videos on there and many times they make my day. Anyways, one of the most popular videos on that show up on my news feed are food videos: go figure! They must know me pretty well because I love food! And more importantly I love cooking and baking!

So naturally, tasty and delish videos always catch my attention. I constantly watch these mouthwatering videos and save them in hopes that one day I can finally try them! Well, over the last break I finally decided to give it a try…well technically it was my second attempt. My first time I tried making this “easy” lemon chicken dish which turned out rather sour. But I was confident that this time would be different!

Anyways, I was playing this online pasta cooking game with my sister when the “customer” made gnocci! For those of you that are not Italian, gnocci is basically potato pasta and my great grandma and uncle used to make it! I of course started to really crave it and remembered I had previously saved a tasty video recipe for it! So I decided I would give it a try since it seemed easy enough and I had all the ingredients.

Well, all I can say is second time isn’t the charm. It was horrible! The video failed to say how long to boil the potatoes which led me to mash undercooked potatoes for 20 minutes! And of course it was to late to boil them longer so the final product looked something like chunky potato balls…which aren’t very appetizing at all.

Moral of the story: tasty videos should not be a thing!…or I should really stick to baking. Although a GREAT concept, tasty videos just don’t work for me. They give me false expectations and impressions that I can actually cook. Not only that, but they leave out key details which you of course don’t realize until after you start! I guess those are the details that are conveniently cut out to make it a minute long. Maybe one day I’ll give it a try with dessert but for now I warn y’all…BE CAUTIOUS! Or you might find yourself mashing undercooked potatoes one day…
