Don’t Be Afraid of Counseling Services

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

It has been three weeks since the start of the fall semester of college and with it comes the stress of school, work, and life. College can be a demanding experience whether you’re a first time Freshman or a returning student. Fortunately, your college offers services and programs that are both physically and mentally beneficial to you: counseling services.

If you feel like you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed, don’t hesitate to go to your college’s counseling services. Emotions can be difficult to control at times, but trying to conceal one in particular is like trying to stop a leak in a boat when the boat is already sinking. The entirety of the boat will be completely submerged in water, resulting in nothing but alienation and detachment from the world. Talking to a friend can help, but also talking to someone who is certified and nonjudgmental when they listen is even more supportive for your health.

Don’t be ashamed of counseling services. They are here to help you. If you are facing problems that have you stressing over school work or everyday life then talk to someone. No one will criticize you if you receive counseling. You need to face your roadblocks in life head on whether they are emotional or physical before you can overcome them.

Facing your problems and tackling them can help you prosper in the long run. If you’re afraid to walk the distance to take care of yourself then you will never learn to defeat your inner demons. You are not alone. There is nothing to be ashamed of with going to counseling services.
