What made you decide to come the United States for college?

In Brazil, when you apply to college, you have to choose your major straight away. I wasn’t quite sure about what I wanted to major in. I even considered applying to art school! I definitely wanted a liberal arts education. Although I started out as an Econ major here, I have taken many literature and political science classes that I loved. It’s great being able to branch out like that.

How have you adjusted to being in the United States?

I really miss the sun, the beaches and my friends & family from back home, but I also love my life and friends here. From classes with incredible professors, to Wednesday night Toads and amazing friends, Yale has become a second home to me a lot faster than I had imagined it would.

What else are you involved in Yale?

I am in YIRA and am a part of the Model United Nations team – I love to travel with the other members to compete around the US. I am also philanthropy director for Kappa Alpha Theta and do Public Relations for Yale’s College Against Cancer organization – we are working on Relay for Life right now, which everyone should sign up for!

Where can you be found during the weekends?

I like to do things that I don’t have time to do during the week, like going on runs at East Rock, or trying something like Bikram yoga with my friends or exploring different brunch spots in New Haven! Sometimes I’ll go to NYC as well.

Where do you like to shop?

I like to shop when I travel. I love finding really cool, local stores in unexpected places around the world.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope to find myself in a job that sees me traveling around and doing something that involves economics and politics. I could take one of those jobs that The Economist advertises, like being a program manager for the ILO in Bangladesh or doing microfinance somewhere.
