Museums of Cincinnati

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

Although it is getting warmer outside, and if it’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that Ohio weather is always unpredictable. So for one of those days where it’s quite warm enough to sit outside and enjoy nature, you could go, as we’d like to call it, “museum hopping.” Before moving to Cincinnati we had no idea of the amount of museums that were surrounding the city. When finding out about all the different museums, our hearts jumped with glee!

Throughout the time here at Xavier we have gotten to visit a few of these amazing museums so we thought we’d share them with you.

1. CAC – Contemporary Arts Center

We hate to be biased but we must say that this might be our favorite museum that Cincinnati offers. This museum is free to the public and has several exhibits and a floor designated for children, which is the best in our opinion. This museum is modern and in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. Check it out here.

2. 21C Museum Hotel

If you like the CAC you can walk right next door to the 21C Museum Hotel. This museum has modern art and is also free. There’s also a little cafe on the bottom floor, perfect for a light lunch while looking at art. Check it out here.

3. Cincinnati Art Museum

Down in the heart of Eden Park – a beautiful park that gives a great view of downtown Cincinnati – is the Cincinnati Art Museum. This museum is open to the public and has several exhibits, plus a nice cafe that looks out into the courtyard. Perfect for a sunny day in the park! Check it out here.

4. Cincinnati Children’s Museum

The Cincinnati Children’s museum or Union Terminal is located right outside of downtown Cincinnati. Here, children (and adults) can explore arts, books, culture and science through interactive exhibits and educational programs. Within the Union Terminal there’s the Cincinnati History Museum, Museum of Natural History and Science, Duke Energy Children’s Museum, as well as the OMNIMAX Theatre. Check it out here.

Those are just four of the many museums Cincinnati and the surrounding areas have to offer, and they’re all free or low priced. So get out there and enjoy some art, history, science, etc.

A few others include: Taft Museum of Art, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati Observatory and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House.
