10 Reasons You Should Be Listening to Real Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

1) They have some of the best looking vinyls on the market

Their vinyls are some of my favorites in my whole collection. My favorite is probably “More Acoustic Songs,” because it has a beautiful etching (and I’m always biased when it comes to acoustics).

2) Dan Lambton’s live/acoustic vocals

Everyone should do themselves a favor and listen to the live acoustic version of “Skeletons,” because it’s arguably some of his finest vocals. Plus, all the live acoustic versions of “Maybe This Place is the Same and We’re Just Changing” do wonders showing off Dan’s vocal range and talent.

3) Real Friends has exclusive ins with Olive Garden

You know if a band is tight with a quality Italian family eatery they have to produce some sweet tunes!

4) Their weekly band dinners

This is actually how the whole Olive Garden thing began. Once a week, when not on tour, the band gets together and has dinner somewhere. I think this is really cool because it shows that they are actually friends who want to spend time together, not just dudes making music to make money.

5) They are always talking about dogs

Merch, tweets, fans, you name it, and dogs are involved. I mean, who doesn’t love dogs?!

6) Meaningful lyrics

The lyrics of Real Friends’ songs often reminds me of Twenty One Pilots. They are lyrics that people can cling to in times of trouble and use to keep their head above water. Not only are the lyrics good, but you can tell Real Friends really feels and cares about what they’re singing.

7) They are from a Chicago suburb, and really care about the local scene there

This one is really cool and relevant because I live in Cincinnati, and everyone here knows someone from Chicago. Plus, it’s not often that you see bigger bands encouraging people to listen to smaller stuff. I remember at one point, with all online orders they would send you a CD of a local band. They never forget where they came from, who got them there, and how they can continue to share and benefit the music scene.

8) Their catchy melodies

I constantly find myself having one of their songs stuck in my head, and that’s not a bad thing at all! Their songs are perfect for when you just feel like singing a little louder than normal.

9) Home For Fall

So this is the name of one of their songs, and one of my personal anthems. So technically this reason is completely bias, but I thought it needed to be included nonetheless. This song was the song that helped me get through my move to college. It talks about leaving home for bigger and greater things but never forgetting where you come from. I actually hope to get a tattoo similar to this in the future.

10) They are just five cool dudes doing what they love

As I said earlier, no one can deny that Real Friends loves what they are doing and are doing their best at it. They are so passionate about music, the local scene, fans and so much more. Everyday they make me proud to be a fan, and I hope others can experience that too!
