Your Go-To White Elephant Exchange Gift!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Do you have Christmas cheer, screaming loud for all to hear?

I do!

I’ve been singing carols in the middle of Wal-Mart and Kroger, humming in the car, and dreamily walking through the Christmas section of all stores since the middle of November.

If you’re not yet in the Christmas spirit, give it another week or so. Once finals are over, you’ll be humming along to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and thinking about your “Santa Baby”.

In the spirit of Christmas and celebration comes the oh-so-dreadful White Elephant gift exchanges. Those are good for if you are going to a company party or somewhere where you don’t know anyone, I’ll admit that. Other than that, they are annoying pocket-drainers, the bane of existence. I had a bad only-one White Elephant experience, so I’m a bit biased. My Gameboy Color isn’t upset about that gift though. I felt I spent a lot of money when someone else didn’t even put thought into it.

How do you make a change, or show that you want change?

BE IT!

For this White Elephant exchange coming up, I’ve put together a gift stocking. Feel free to take this idea and run with it if you have an exchange coming up.

Movie Stocking:

Get a cheap stocking from the dollar bins at Wal-Mart, Target, or a Dollar Store. Get a Christmas movie (or whatever movie pleases your aesthetic). Buy candy, popcorn, etc. BAMBOOM! You’ve got a gift!

This idea can be applied to a variety of themes of parties or gifts. If you’re buying a gift for a little girl, a pink stocking filled with lip smackers and candy necklaces and a tiara/wand combo would be great.

If you’re buying for a friend, show how much you pay attention to the little things by filling a stocking with their favorite things, “and then they won’t feel so bad!”

Have a very Merry Christmas, and survive all those gift exchanges!
