WVWC Style Icon: Kaitlin Ward

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Meet future “Singing Lawyer” and Wesleyan’s latest Style Icon, Miss Kaitlin Ward!

Kaitlin hails from Rising Sun, Md. and this is her third year at Wesleyan. The junior is a vocal performance major with a minor in criminal justice—hence the “Singing Lawyer” nickname! On top of all that, Kaitlin is an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta and holds the esteemed position of Public Relations Chair. In her spare time, Kaitlin enjoys singing, dancing, and playing piano. Not only is Kaitlin the very definition of a go-getter, she also never hesitates to extend a helping hand or offer advice to her sorority sisters and friends, all of whom call her “Kat” for short.

In addition to being one of the most fabulous collegiates at Wesleyan, Kat is also one of the best dressed—but her amazing sense of style is only an extension of her award-winning personality.

I’ll let her take it from here! You’ll see what I’m talking about!

MS: How would you describe your personal sense of style?

KW: Classy and tasteful.

MS: Would you say that you’re a trend-setter or a trend-follower?

KW: Trend-setter for sure! I’ve always gone with whatever I personally think looks good or works well together.

MS: Where do you typically shop?

KW: Express, Banana Republic, Wet Seal, Forever 21, Charlotte Rousse, and Nordstrom.

MS: Is there anything in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

KW: Scarves, definitely. They can both dress up or dress down an outfit. And depending on the occasion, a certain print can help your outfit become dressy or more relaxed.

MS: What does the word “style” mean to you?

KW: Style is loving what you’re wearing. That means not only how it looks, but how you feel in it, too.

MS: How would you say that your style has evolved over the years?

KW: My style has matured over the years. I feel like I’ve always strived to dress nicely, but as I’ve gotten older, I have put a lot more effort into how I present myself.

MS: Any tips you’d like to share with your fellow collegiates in regard to style?

KW: Always go with what makes you feel comfortable. Don’t just wear something because you’re trying to follow a trend. Also, now that it’s colder, invest in scarves! They really can add a lot to your outfit.

MS: Do you have a “go-to” look, or do you like to add some variety to the way you dress?

KW:  My go to look is what I like to call “comfortably put together.” Ha, ha. Since it’s fall, it’s much easier, but if I’m struggling with what to wear, I usually resort to wearing leggings and a baggy sweater, and dressing it up with a scarf and boots. But on an everyday basis, I switch it up. People say I “dress up” every day, but I’m really just trying to look presentable. My weekly outfits could range from dresses, leggings and a sweater, to jeans and letters. It just depends on how I’m feeling.
