(Ugly) Sweater Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Every collegiate has her favorite Christmas tradition, whether it be baking yuletide goodies, decorating the house, or watching “A Christmas Story” with the fam on a loop.

In recent years, however, a new holiday tradition has made its way into our hearts—and closets: ugly Christmas sweaters.

Remember back in the day when we used to laugh at our elementary school teachers and their ridiculous holiday get-ups? Well, they were apparently en trend long before we were! The puffy-painted Santas, fluffy snowmen and sparkly Christmas trees are making a comeback, and in a major way!

We’ve all heard of the ugly Christmas sweater parties—and have maybe even attended a few recently. But, for interest’s sake, let’s say that you’ve been living under a rock these past couple of years and have no clue as to what I’m talking about.

Here’s what goes down: partygoers rifle through their drawers and closets in search of the most hideous holiday tops they can find.

Then, the person with the ugliest sweater is crowned the victor.

Depending on the party you attend, you may even receive some sort of prize for taking first place!

There are even stores that exclusively sell ugly Christmas sweaters during the holiday season. Sazz Vintage Clothing is a clothing store out of Philadelphia that sells throwback fashions, but has recently decided to open a “pop-up” ugly sweater store in the downtown area. There are also websites like uglysweaterstore.com and www.tipsyelves.com that are perfect for your hideous holiday needs!

Whether you want to win it all or simply look like a snowball on your own accord, it isn’t too late to jump on the ugly sweater bandwagon! Get yours today, and get plenty of laughs (and maybe even some looks of pity) in return!
