Sorry Guys, But A New Harry Potter Novel Isn’t in the Works

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

This summer, the world will indeed be able to experience a new J.K. Rowling story featuring the same well-loved characters as in the best-selling Harry Potter series. However, it is not a new novel, nor a prequel or sequel to the Harry Potter books. It is a play entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the new release is actually the script in book format.

The first performance of the play will take place July 30 in England, but the book will be available for purchase the following day. The plot of the play focuses upon the lives of the central characters after the conclusion of the Battle of Hogwarts, which takes place in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows.

An introduction to the play prefaces the performance: “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

This alone should be enough to spark excitement in even the slightest fan, regardless of the format of the book. Be sure to check out Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this summer!
