Human Trafficking: 27 Million Too Many

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

In 2012, I had the awesome opportunity to go to a Passion Conference. I heard some of the most dynamic speakers of our generation partnered with the top worship artists. More importantly than the sounds of dynamic speakers and worship leaders, my eyes were opened to an injustice so great that I have not been able to forget about it since. I have been challenged to move forward to end human trafficking. I have the resources to do my part, so I am. Ignorance is not an excuse any longer.

The A21 Campaign’s website states, “There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. Men, women, and children are being exploited for manual and sexual labor against their will.”

Over the next few months, I’ll be posting more about the subject of human trafficking because it’s something we should be passionate about ending. I will share with you information, developments, and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those who have the potential to be trafficked, those being trafficked, and those who have been trafficked.

I encourage you to do your own search into this serious issue. Read stories, learn the facts, and become aware of what is going on in the world around you. I am no longer satisfied with sitting around and waiting on the world to change; there are too many people doing just that. I’m taking action, and I’d love if you’d join me.

What will you do?
