How to Get Stylishly Spooky This Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Halloween is just around the corner! But what if you don’t have a costume or don’t want to spend loads of money on one? Have no fear (about your costume, that is)! With these simple ideas you can still enjoy the hauntings, the candy and everything that makes up the spirit of the holiday with your own spooky style:

If you don’t have a real preference for a specific costume or character, you can theme your outfit around the spirit of Halloween in general. You could keep it simple with an outfit composed entirely of black and orange, or you could opt for a shirt with a cute or funny Halloween saying! Add some themed jewelry and some dramatic makeup and you’re ready to creep on the street.

If you want to wear a costume, but need to still dress to function, for example to work or to class, try to keep the clothes simple and splurge on an accessory. You can’t go wrong with fun headbands and hats, printed leggings, or iconic jewelry. Even a certain look of makeup or hairstyle can be associated with a character! With accessories, you can easily take them off if you need to be serious and then put them back on in a lighter environment.

When in doubt, ask a friend to try the casual costume look with you! You can theme your costumes to go together or just admire each other’s creativity! If you are feeling especially adventurous, you can make your own costumes together and spend your Halloween letting others guess what you are! A little mystery always makes Halloween all the more entertaining!

Now you can enjoy the 31st with less stress and still feel cute and spooky!

Stay classy (and creepy) this Halloween!

I am adopted from Russia and was raised in West Virginia. I am a double major in English (Writing Concentration) and Musical Theatre. I love art in many different forms be it writing, singing, acting, drawing/painting, or design. I adore fashion and it has helped me become the person that I want to be in life. I am a very open person and love talking to people, so feel free to ask me anything! I am honored to be a part of the Her Campus team and I hope that my writing will bring you a smile. If I'm not in the theater or typing up my version of the great American fashion column, you can always hear me coming from the click of my heels. My advice to all: Stay classy!
