5 Essential Oils to Get You Through the Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

The holiday season is always so enticing – kinship, homemade treats, and lovely moments of relaxation. However, the weeks before breaks are a college student’s worst nightmare: Papers. Group projects. Exams. Not to mention the mountain of obligations that overflow your calendar. These times are especially hectic and increasingly stressful. Each of us have our arsenals of ways to cope, typically with an unhealthy amount of coffee, but I’ve discovered a natural remedy that soothes me, even on the worst days: essential oils. Now, before you go labelling me a tree-hugging hippie (not that I’d be offended), hear me out. Essential oils have been scientifically proven to alleviate the symptoms of various physical and psychological conditions, ranging from acne care to depression, there is certainly an oil that can work for you! Below I’ve included popular oils that can lighten the mood when times are tough.

  1. Lavender: This oil is most commonly known for its ability to sooth and ease feelings of anxiety, but lavender also combats insect bites and itchy or dry skin!

  1. Peppermint: Are you struggling to focus? This particular oil is known for energizing and uplifting.

  1. Eucalyptus: The transition from fall to winter can often be strenuous on our immune systems, especially because most of us are sleep deprived. Have no fear, this oil helps fight common cold and flu symptoms.

  1. Roman Chamomile: Ladies, I know that periods are a multi-faceted experience of discomfort for all of us. While this oil cannot cure our pain, it is known for suppressing menstrual cramps!

  1. Rose: Stress causes each of us to feel ‘some type of way.’ This floral oil serves to nourish and replenish our emotions that college often strips away.

This ‘waiting period’ is incredibly overwhelming, but try these natural remedies to help you along the way!

Stay trippy, little hippies!
