Hey ladies, are you in a slump? Feeling down? Now that classes have picked up, the weather is changing and the honeymoon phase is over (deadlines approaching, group projects, exams), it is very common for stress and frustration to seep into our lives. Mental health is just as important as physical health, so we must make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep every part of us healthy. Here are a few tips to keep your mental health in check while staying on top of everything.
1. Exercise
Studies have shown that exercising is great for mental health. Exercising increases blood-flow to the brain which releases endorphins and reduces stress and other causes of mental health issues. It also gives you more energy during the day and helps you sleep during the night. You can exercise at the gym, or around campus!
2. Have a mental health day/night
Plan a girls night in with your best gal pals and relax. It is necessary to take a break and focus on yourself and what better way to do it than with some friends? Make some face masks, split a pizza, and enjoy chillaxing with people that bring you happiness and positivity!
3. Talk to someone
If you’re noticing that you have been feeling down for some time, it’s a good idea to make an appointment with a counselor in the area. WVU’s Carruth Center has loads of resources for all things mental health and wellness. They have plenty of counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists available to help guide you whether you need talk therapy, mental health testing, and even medication.
