Spring break is less than two weeks away and the time you have to purchase clothes on your favorite websites to avoid late shipping is dwindling. There is only one weekend holding us back from having our feet in the sand and a drink in our hand, and what better way to spend this upcoming weekend than with a trip to the mall to snag the latest Spring 2014 trends?
Fashion and style over spring break, no matter what destination you choose, is the perfect time to test out the new trends and see if they work well with your physique. So to prepare for the forthcoming of warm weather on spring break or during the season itself, here are some spring fashion trends you will need to make sure to buy!
1.Palazzo Pants
This style of pants will be HUGE this spring and summer. The lightweight fabric and the extremely wide leg that flares out from the waist makes this a popular warm weather piece because of its breathable fabrics and loose fitting silhouette.
2.Pastels
An obvious characteristic of spring are soft pastel colors. You will be seeing a lot of Pantone’s Spring 2014 Pastel Palette featured this spring on your favorite garments. Interested in what colors I am talking about? Refer back to my “Move Over Winter; Hello Winter” article.
3.Metallics
Similar to iridescent colors, metallics will be huge this season. They can be dark metal colors or vibrant bright metallics. These colors will reflect different hues and create the vibrant and bright tones we love to see during the warm season.
4.Pleated Skirts
The cute and feminine pleats are going to be seen on a good amount of skirts this season. This type of fold will add fullness to the garment and allow for ease of movement. This will allow for the garments to be draped loosely on your hips and create a light weight garment.
5.Tea-Length Skirts
Move over maxi skirts, tea-length skirts are the new trend this spring and summer. Tea-length skirts fall between the bottom of the knee and the bottom of the calf. This skirt is suitable for less formal daytime affairs and more casual outdoor events. This skirt will be perfect for lunch or shopping dates during the day, or even casual evening wear for dinner on spring break.
6.Crop Tops
You guessed right, crop tops will be carried over from the last two seasons to complete apparel for this spring.
7.Box Silhouette Shirts
Boxed and squared silhouette shirts and jackets are focused towards the overall theme of Spring 2014: ease of movement, comfort, and light weight. The boxier the silhouette the bigger and baggier it will be. It follows the same aspect as palazzo and harem pants. These shirts are roomy and create a straight silhouette.
8.Cropped Jackets (Collared or Collarless)
Similar to the crop top, the cropped jackets will range anywhere from a cropped bomber jacket to a cropped blazer. Depending on your personal preference, any style, fabric, and color will be suitable for the spring season. Make sure you pair these jackets with high-waisted skirts, shorts, pants, or dresses. NEVER pair cropped tops or jackets with low rise silhouettes, you are looking for a fashion disaster if you do.
9.Bold Florals
Florals are an obvious move for the spring season. Pants, skirts, leggings, and shirts will have excessive amounts of flowers printed on them. You can never go wrong with a basic floral garment and dressing it up or down for your spring break/spring festivities
10.Quirky Prints
Wild and eccentric prints will be huge this season. Whether they are on your pants, shirt, or both these printed garments will be quirky and fun to wear. Logos will be printed on a lot of cropped sweaters that will be in stores this season. Prints like animals, flowers, peace signs, etc. will be used on palazzo pants and cropped jackets
11.Button-Up Shirts
Button up shirts and blouses are always a spring basic, but this year try choosing ones that incorporate the popular color, fabrics, and prints of the season.
12.Sheer Tops
Spring always brings sheer fabrics like chiffon and organza. This feminine fabric can be worn at any time of the day and will be seen in a lot of the button-up blouses that will be popular this season.
13.High Waisted Swim Suits
You will see this style featured in Victoria Secret’s catalog. This vintage piece is perfect for girls who prefer and love the high waisted trend. This suit will elongate your legs and cover the areas of your stomach you may not feel comfortable showing off just yet.
14. Harem Pants
Similar to the palazzo pants in which they provide a lightweight and loose fit with breathable fabric. However, these pants are tapered at the ankle making them baggy at the hip and tight at the ankle. These are perfect to be worn with heels, wedges, or even flats.
15. Kimonos
What better way to show your sense of style than with a lightweight and sheer kimono to wear over dresses or practically any outfit. Floral kimonos will be seen everywhere this spring 2014 and it will be a trend similar to the oversize cardigans seen this fall and winter. Use this garment as an accessory piece to add color and prints to any average outfit.
