Move Over Winter; Hello Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted six more weeks of weather on February 2nd, but that does not mean we cannot start preparing for the warm weather ahead of us. I’m not sure about you West Virginia University Fashionistas but I am tired and bored with this cold weather and all the gloom that comes with it. It is time to start purchasing clothes that forecast Pantone’s Spring 2014 Color Palette. If we start to dress in the colors we will start seeing this late March and early April, we will not only be breaking from the stereotypical warm colors the majority of people wear in cold and snowy weather but we will also be showing how fashion forward we are with the latest trends.

Pantone’s Spring 2014 Color Palette consists of ten combinations of pastels and vivid brights, including our “2014 Color of the Year” Radiant Orchid. This spring is about a mixture of the traditional spring pastels with vivid brights inspired by blooming flowers. You can expect to start seeing these spring colors at your favorite retailers around this time of year, and will be a huge influence on your choice of clothes for spring break. You can expect to see these versatile color combinations:

-Placid Blue: A very soft blue that can be equivalent to a sky blue, induces a sense of tranquility and peace.

-Violet Tulip: “A romantic, vintage purple.” This purple represents the blooming flower palette perfectly.

-Hemlock: A pastel and rather summery green that could pass as a shade or so softer than Mint Green.

-Sand: The perfect neutral color that is very self explanatory with its name. This lightly  toasted color represents the images of the beach and can symbolize a calm and carefree spirit.

-Paloma: A light grey color that can work alone or be combined with any of the pastel or vivid brights to create a new combination. This color works perfectly in this palette so it can be combined to any of the colors to cool the palette down.

-Freesia: A vivid bright yellow that can illuminate any outfit. It is inspired by the spring flowers and can bring energy and warmth to any outfit.

-Cayenne: A high-pitched red that can add spice to any outfit.

-Celosia: The color of the sun and the warm tone of this orange makes it a perfect spring color.

-Dazzling Blue: A complete opposite of Placid Blue, this dark and violet blue is a bold color that shows confidence and strength when worn.

-Radiant Orchid: Previously mentioned in my blog about the “Color of the Year,” this enigmatic purple radiates the undertones of both men and females skin. This warm color looks great on all complexions and all genders.

When you start shopping for your spring wardrobe, or if you need a new cute sweater to wear out next weekend, start shopping for these ten new vibrant and warm pastels! These colors will make everyone around you feel warm and forget about the mass amounts of snow around them. Start wearing these vivid brights and warm pastel fashions to rebel against this long and cold winter. You can melt this awful snow away and say goodbye to winter colors, and hello to spring shades!
