Meet Morgantown City Council Candidate, Nelson France!

Nelson France, a WVU Student Government Association executive member, has decided to run for Morgantown City Council. He currently serves as the liaison to city council and SGA. He is a graduate student and is running for Morgantown City Council’s third ward. He will be graduating in May with a Master’s in Public Administration.  WVU Her Campus is honored to have interviewed France and wishes him the best of luck!

How did you get involved in SGA?: “I was appointed the SGA Liaison to City Council in April of 2010.”

What made you decide to run for Morgantown City Council?: “The decision came from speaking with friends, family, community activists, business leaders, and fellow students.”

What are your main goals while campaigning?: “My main goal for the campaign is to meet as many voters as possible and tell them about who I am and why I am running.”

What do you think you can bring to the Morgantown City Council that no other candidate can?: “I think I bring a fresh and unique perspective to Morgantown City Council. It has been over 30 years since someone who lived Downtown has represented Downtown. That is something no other candidate can offer.”

What do you want the voters of Morgantown to know about you?: “I want the voters of Morgantown to know that I am here to listen and learn. Through my website and social media I intend to reach out to every concerned citizen in the City of Morgantown.”

Devin is a sophomore at West Virginia University, class of 2013. She was a direct-admit into the School of Journalism as a freshman, where she is now majoring in Public Relations with two minors in Political Science and Professional Writing & Editing. Devin started her journalism career in Fairmont, WV. In high school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Maple Leaves Yearbook, which went on to receive a Silver Medal in the Columbia Scholastic Program of Achievement. She was a columnist for her local newspaper, The Times West Virginian, for two years. During her senior year in high school, Devin was a columnist for a national magazine, Gladys, where she went on to become the Public Relations Manager. At WVU, Devin is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In her spare time, Devin enjoys drinking skinny vanilla lattes, watching Saturday Night Live (re-runs, of course, because she is never home on a Saturday night), and buying cocktail dresses. When she grows up, Devin wants to be a lawyer.
