Lazy Girl’s Guide to Looking Cute

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Being lazy in the world of Instagram models and the makeup revolution is pretty tough. I pride myself on being the “bare minimum” kind of girl when it comes to my appearance. The beauty blenders and the contour kits literally haunt my dreams. I don’t know how to “bake” my face, put on fake eyelashes and I still wear sweatpants to any casual outing. I have picked up on some things along the way that blurs the lines between the fashionistas and the, well… me’s of the world.

Here is what I learned to get away with the bare minimum and still looking cute.

1. All hail the boyfriend jean!

I have thought I would have to come to terms with anytime I wanted to go out, I would be uncomfortable. Then everything changed. Boyfriend jeans started to crawl out of the box of your mom’s clothes from the 90’s and have revolutionized comfy chic. Designers thought they were giving us comfort with the “jegging”!!?? Have you ever tried on boyfriend jeans? OH BABY! They are usually high waisted and baggy and they make me feel like I am wearing sweatpants, not to mention they are so freakin’ cute!

2. Scrunchies

When you want to look cute but you, A. Haven’t showered or B. your hair looks like its been run through a lawnmower, try scrunchies. Another past timed trend coming back into style is the scrunchie. They are so cute and simple and makes you look like you chose to wear your hair like this instead of covering up the oil spill in your hair.

3. Beanies

I love a good beanie because it shows you are trying to be cute, but also not trying too hard. The best thing about these is they go with almost any outfit. Flannels? Add a beanie. Dress? Add a beanie. Sweatpants and a sweatshirt? Add a beanie.

4. Makeup tutorials

If you are not so big on makeup but you want to try to look like you are into makeup, try YouTube. I am no stranger to how mesmerizing the YouTube makeup tutorial can be, but for lazy girls like me, I can’t keep up. With countless hours of recon, I have hacked the system. If I need a makeup tutorial for a night out I usually search for an “everyday makeup routine”. Most likely these makeup gurus “everyday” makeup is just perfect for my “going out” makeup.

5. Pinterest

If you still wear Sketchers and Adidas capris like I do, you probably aren’t the most fashionable. Something that has aided me along the way, is Pinterest. Pinterest has many users that set up potential outfits and put all the items in one place for you to buy. Also, Pinterest puts related pins on your timeline, so if you are really into jean jackets, they give you more jean jacket related outfits to fit your style. It’s like the nanny that lays out your clothes that I always wanted.
