How to Keep Your New Years Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Another year, another list of resolutions that will probably last us two weeks into January. It’s okay that we don’t always follow through with our resolutions, but if this year you actually want to change some things around in your life you can try out some of these tips and tricks!

1. Start small

This is something that none of us know how to do (when I say none of us I mean myself). Take your resolutions and cut it in half. You want to stop drinking? Start off by only drinking on the weekends, and when you start getting comfortable with it your initial resolution will be cake!

2. Get your friends in on it!

It is so much more fun and easier if you have a support system with you! You want to lose a couple pounds? Take a cycling class with your friends! That way everyone is in on it so you are less likely to back out!

3. Don’t give up if you cheat.

Okay you are all lying if you tell me everyone trying to lose weight cuts off chipotle cold turkey. If I had a long week and I need something to cheer me up, you best believe I will be at Chipotle’s doors waiting for them to open. Its okay, take that one step back so you can take three steps forward.

4.Take one thing at a time.

Ladies we are not going to turn into Kendall Jenner overnight (still gonna try though) but we have to take things one step at a time. Trying to turn your life around in one night can and will get you nowhere. Start off with one resolution at a time and after you beat it, move on to the next!

5. Reward yourself!

Make yourself work for it with a reward if you succeed! Buy those jeans you wanted, get your nails done, eat a cupcake! Resolutions are supposed to be fun so try to make it like a game!

Hi ladies and gents, my name is Mel, Melanie if you're feelin' fancy. I'm a senior studying advertising, political science and fashion at West Virginia University. In addition to my studies, I am the Campus Correspondent for the WVU HC Chapter! You can hear me on the radio at U92 FM reporting the news and hosting morning shows. If I'm not there, I'm most likely at the local Panera eating my body weight in broccoli cheddar soup or writing about the daily, awkward encounters I experience. I represenative of the college of media as an ambassador and the prez of the magazine club. Oversized sweatshirts and jean on jean are my aesthetics. Lover, not a fighter unless you tell me Joe Jonas wasn't the best Jonas. Laters, baby.
