7 WVU Fans You Will See On Game Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Game day is one of a Mountaineer’s favorite days.  Who doesn’t love tailgating with their friends all day eating good food, drinking good drinks and having a good time?  Mountaineer football brings everyone together to support and cheer on our favorite team.  All kinds of kinds gather in our student section and it is truly amazing to look around at the different fans of WVU.

1.  The Die-hards

These are the students who eat, sleep and breathe WVU football.  They usually show up earlier than everyone else so they can get the best seats possible, so normally you will find them in the front row.  Got a question about #35?  These peeps will have the answer.

2.  The Loud Crowd

If anyone is pumped up for a football game, it’s these students.  Most members of this crowd need a spirit stick because they deserve it.   They lead chants and are very animated with every play.  Be careful though, sometimes they can get extra rowdy.

3.  The “I’m just here for the ride” Group

Let’s face it, not everyone likes football, but they deserve to be there just as much as everyone else!  They usually don’t understand the game, but they have touchdowns on lock.  Hey, that’s most important, right?

4.  Concession Stand Groupies

Where did John go?  Probably back to the concession stand.  Ever watch someone come back with a new food item like every quarter of the game?  That person probably belongs to this crowd.  Concession food is awesome and who could pass up nachos?  My only question: how do y’all afford it?

5.  The “I had one too many” Posse

With football comes beer.  They go together like peanut butter and jelly, and like peanut butter and jelly, too much is not good.  Drunk people are a very entertaining crowd and definitely add to your experience at the game.  It’s WVU, so embrace it!  Have a beer, but maybe before the game unless you’re down to spend 8 dollars on a single can.

6.  Mountaineer Lovers

Come on, we all love the Mountaineers, but these guys are very dedicated.  Not only have they been to all the football games, but soccer, and volleyball, and every other sport.  They care most about representing WVU pride.  This group owns so much WVU gear they could probably share with the entire university.

7.  New-comers

Each game day will always be someone’s first and we are all excited for them.  These are usually easy to spot because they have that look in their eye and smile on their face, and you just know.  We all remember our first game day and it’s a very memorable experience.  So, if you see someone lost or not sure of our awesome chants, help them out!

While the crowd at game day may seem diverse, we all have one thing in common: we are all Mountaineers.  It’s a great feeling gathering with students, becoming one and rooting for our team.  So next time, take a look around, make a friend, and try something new.  Let’s go Mountaineers!

I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up here I knew there was a possibility of going to West Virginia University my entire life. Although I decided to start my college career at the University of Kentucky, those country roads led me back to WVU in the spring of my sophomore year. This was also the point when I decided to establish myself as a Broadcast Journalist student. Since this point I have strived to become the best possible journalist I can be. I am currently working as a weekend reporter for WDTV-Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Prior to receiving this position, I worked as an intern with WCHS-tv/FOX11, in the summer of 2014, where I learned critical editing, interviewing, writing, and speaking skills. I worked closely with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, producers, and even the web team. Aside from the television industry, I am the Campus Correspondent for the West Virginia University Chapter of the online entertainment magazine, Her Campus. Another position I currently hold is the Social Media Chair of WVU’s Radio Television Digital News Association Chapter. In the Fall of 2012, I became a sister of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, in which I held the position of ‘Big Sister Chairman.’ My other passions include horse back riding, scuba diving, being outdoors, and running. I am very adventurous and I try to stay well rounded. My goal in life is to live life to the fullest and be the best possible version of myself. My ultimate goal would be to earn a spot as a reporter/anchor for Fox News, New York. I plan to graduate in December of 2016 and look forward to my future.
