10 Valentine’s Day Dates For The Single Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVU chapter.

Valentine’s Day (aka the single girl’s worst nightmare) is quickly approaching and it can easily become an excuse to binge watch Netflix in bed and avoid happy couples everywhere. Instead, get a group of your closest friends together and try something new!

1. Go on a Skiing or Snowboarding Trip – With awesome ski resorts such as Wisp, Seven Springs and Snowshoe within reasonable driving distance from Morgantown, going on a skiing or snowboarding trip with your friends is a great alternative to spending Valentine’s Day with your (non-existent) significant other.

2. Take a Trip to a Winery – Local wineries including Heston Farms Winery and Forks of Cheat Winery are within minutes of downtown Morgantown and are a perfect option to spend Valentines Day with your friends. Wine Wednesday Weekend!

3. Spend the day in Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh has fascinating museums and great restaurants that would make spending Valentines Day with your girls one for the books.

4. Go to the Movies – Interested in a more laidback option? Try seeing a new movie with your friends on Valentine’s Day. Bonus: you can wear leggings.

5. Check out a Local Restaurant – The restaurant scene in Morgantown has improved recently with the addition of Tin 202 and Table 9. Both offer upscale and interesting options that will make your girls Valentine’s Day a special occasion.

6. Try Ice Skating – Ice Skating is a light hearted Valentine’s Day activity and is sure to keep you and your pals laughing the whole time (no matter how many times you fall).

7. Get a ManicureLook good, feel good! Because is there anything the can lift your spirits as quickly as getting a mani pedi with your friends?

8. Visit an Animal Shelter – Is there anything better than snuggles with an adorable puppy? Get your friends together and go visit a local animal shelter and play with the kittens and puppies; this is a great option because you’ll probably be making their day too!

9. Cook Dinner – Get together and try cooking a gourmet meal. The challenge of following a tough recipe will definitely pay off with the tasty meal.

10. Try a Paint and Sip – Paint and Sips are super popular for a reason. Use this Valentine’s Day to release your inner Picasso. Following the teacher is easy and you and your friends will get to take home your paintings as a souvenir. Just be careful not to sip too much or your starry night may turn out more like a “It’s Abstract!” piece.

I grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up here I knew there was a possibility of going to West Virginia University my entire life. Although I decided to start my college career at the University of Kentucky, those country roads led me back to WVU in the spring of my sophomore year. This was also the point when I decided to establish myself as a Broadcast Journalist student. Since this point I have strived to become the best possible journalist I can be. I am currently working as a weekend reporter for WDTV-Channel 5 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Prior to receiving this position, I worked as an intern with WCHS-tv/FOX11, in the summer of 2014, where I learned critical editing, interviewing, writing, and speaking skills. I worked closely with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, producers, and even the web team. Aside from the television industry, I am the Campus Correspondent for the West Virginia University Chapter of the online entertainment magazine, Her Campus. Another position I currently hold is the Social Media Chair of WVU’s Radio Television Digital News Association Chapter. In the Fall of 2012, I became a sister of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, in which I held the position of ‘Big Sister Chairman.’ My other passions include horse back riding, scuba diving, being outdoors, and running. I am very adventurous and I try to stay well rounded. My goal in life is to live life to the fullest and be the best possible version of myself. My ultimate goal would be to earn a spot as a reporter/anchor for Fox News, New York. I plan to graduate in December of 2016 and look forward to my future.
