Walking With a Purpose

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are many ways to get involved and show your support for those who fight day-in and day-out. Here are some walks that take place in New Jersey!

1. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Each “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk ranges from 3 to 5 miles. This event raises money to fund research projects, help provide free information and support and aims to find and treat breast cancer at its earliest stage. With upcoming events in Jersey City, Piscataway, and Point Pleasant Beach, you will be able to find a walk near you!

2. Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure

With a goal to “reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026,” the Susan G. Komen Foundation aims high! Race For The Cure has donated over $2 billion, playing a critical role in breast cancer awareness advancement. By joining a walk, you can be apart of this amazing organization! Luckily, Race For The Cure is hosting two walks in New Jersey during 2017: one in Jersey City, and one in Jackson.

3. Relay For Life

Relay For Life “is the signature fundraiser cancer walk for the American Cancer Society.” With walks in over 20 countries, Relay For Life is a common household name. With tons of upcoming events in 2018, you’ll be able to form a team and walk with a purpose together!

4. Getting Involved With Your School/Organization

During the month of October, universities usually host a Breast Cancer walk in which students from sports teams, clubs, organizations, and Greek Life join together to walk with a purpose! Check your student e-mail on a regular basis to keep yourself up-to-date!

With so many ways to get involved, grab some friends and family, and Walk With a Purpose!
