My Awkward Dating Life
Turning it into something meaningful...
You’ve gone on the first date, you’ve played the games and now you’re spending time together. A lot of time together. A dinner that starts at 6 p.m. turns into conversation and goes until 1 or 2 in the morning, without you ever knowing that it’s that late.
Getting to know each other is an important step to any relationship and while the late night hang out sessions might be peppered with some make out sessions, the conversation and the knowledge you learn about someone can be the building blocks to something more.
When you turn on a movie with every intention of watching it but instead get lost in funny stories, past loves and quirks of each others families. When you feel like you could stay up all night talking to him and are still good to go the next day. And when all you do is want to text him but have to resist, these are the feelings that are some of the best with new flings, even if you aren’t in the sweat pant wearing stage yet.
I’m writing this after my own late night session that ended around 2:30 a.m. last night. And while I’m suffering from a lack of sleep I’m also high on the new relationship buzz, which is accompanied by tiredness, euphoria and excitement.
After a bad breakup like I had just a month ago moving on and flirting with new guys is some of the best medicine out there. It gets you out of your single slump and gets your ex off your mind. And while yes, kissing a new guy can be weird because it’s not what you’re used to, remember it could be better.
There is a thin line between getting your ex off your mind and rebounding to forget about your ex though, and be careful of that line because it can get you into trouble. Those hours when you’re spending with the new fling are carefree and easy, easy enough that your ex shouldn’t be floating around in your mind, but if he is then maybe you’re not ready to be spending time with this new guy, and you might just be rebounding.
While I’m an advocate for rebounding at times, if you really like this guy and don’t want him to be rebound be aware of your motives, and your feelings.
Remember though, take it slow. You’ll never regret waiting to have sex with him, but you might regret getting there too fast if it turns out to be horrible (hopefully not) or the relationship ends badly or he’s just not what you thought he was.
